2014 PORSCHE MACAN S chasing 911 Carrera S
Wow! The Macan S Is the new 911!
After watching the video, the only conclusion I can reach is that the 911 is a massive failure as a sports car platform. Who would have thought that a CUV/SUV that weighs a 1,000 lbs more, is down 60 hp and is most likely running on 19-inch all-season tires could hang with a 991S. Imagine what a Turbo will do to the 991.
Can't wait to see that video. Looks like it may be time to finally put the aging 911 series out to pasture.
By the way, I am planning on ordering a Turbo for fall delivery...and I don't think it will stand a snowball's chance in hell of hanging with a 991S.
Could I be wrong?

How do we know if the 911 driver was pushing as hard as he could? We don't know the relative capabilities of the 2 drivers, the type of tires on each car, whether or not they were really competing with each other, etc. So I wouldn't use this clip as an indictment of the 911.
Who knows if it was an S or not? Name says not, tail pipes say yes. Maybe the camera was mounted in a Turbo, not the S shown at beginning. BTW, the Macan isn't 1000 pounds heavier either.

Yep...you're right, we don't know the context of the video. I'm with you that the Carrera driver is holding back in the video.
I do believe it is an "S", the quad exhaust is a pretty good indication of that, and the car introduction at the beginning on the video states it's an "S", 3.8 liters, 400 hp.
By the way, Porsche lists the 991S curb weight a 3,075 lbs, and the Macan S at 4112 lbs. Granted, both would be strippers at that weight. My 991S pkd probably weighs closer to 3250 lbs with my options. Add a pano roof and a few other options to the Macan S and I bet you'll find a 1,000 lb. difference in weight.
Does anyone actually believe that a Macan Turbo, an S, or any other Macan variation presently for sale can keep pace with a 991S on a road course or in acceleration?
Most road tests of the 991S show it can accelerate from 0-100 in the mid-to high eight second range, run the quarter mile in the high 11's to very low 12's, brake from 60-0 in just over 100 ft, and on it goes. Plus Porsche posted a Ring time of 7:37 for the 991S.
Porsche says a Turbo Macan will run in the 8:15 neighborhood, mighty impressive for any CUV/SUV. But it is no 991S, let alone a 991.
Not trying to get into a p***ing match with anyone over this. As I said before, I plan on ordering a Turbo for fall delivery, but I'm not expecting it to come remotely close to my 991S performance-wise, on the track or on the road.

If anyone thinks the 911 driver in that video wasn't just cruising around that track I have a bridge to sell you.
I know this is a Macan forum but please let's get real here.
The Macan is a real nice vehicle but a 911 it's not, at least when it comes to handling.
