Macan Mod - Sport Pedal DIY
Macan Mod - Sport Pedal DIY
Wow - Hard to believe I'm first posting a Macan mod or two but... since taking delivery a few weeks ago of the Macan S ordered for my better half I've personalized a few things to make it mine (err... hers
):
Did some std edition stuff (tint, crest, etc.) which need not called out but did a really sharp one last night in under 30 min I thought others would appreciate: SQ5 Sport Pedals (from ebay - Suncoast sells too but ebay's include DP and are more economical
). Oh and some contrasting mats (from Suncoast).
Here's a link to the pedals:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=130973765678
Mat install is more than straight forward
but want to step the pedals up a bit from these:

All standard DIY disclaimers apply - do at own risk or hire a professional.
Tools needed:
I like to start w/ the most difficult first to get it out of the way:
1 - Remove Hood release latch:

Look behind and find clip retainer at top:

Insert a small flat blade into slot and move toward front of vehicle to remove clip. Here it is partially removed:

Once clip is fully removed, turn lever to release hood and then slide off stem - work guide at bottom out of slot.
View of hood release handle from back fully removed:

2 - Remove one T-25 screw from behind hood release handle:

3 - Starting at rear point where door sill trim meets b-pillar trim, pry up using trim removal tool evenly. I didn't bother counting the clips but as with all trim there is one every few inches and they are all claw clips w/ a few alignment ones in between and at the ends (where meet a and b pillar trim). Pry evenly and they will free up. It's one entire piece from here, the kick panel and partly up a-pillar. Once you release the sill, you elevate the rear of it to release kick panel from under dash and a-pillar:

Trim panel removed. As you can see there is a slot on left side of dead pedal - yes kick panel fits into this slot:

4 - Pry loose dead pedal (held in w/ 5 clips) - see pix for approx clip locations. I found it easiest just using my fingers but you could use trim panel removal tool here too:

5 - Add felt to top tab of new dead pedal (old DP on left, new on right - shorter tab). Though not quite as long as OEM pedal, this tab slides into a slot on under dash trim. Cover it w/ felt to abate any plastic rubbing sounds just as OEM DP has:

6 - Place new dead pedal into position lining up top tab & 5 clips then push to lock clips into position. Mine clipped in w/ moderate hand pressure but you may have to use a rubber mallet or just sit in seat and push w/ your foot.
7 - With dead pedal done, re-assemble kick panel/sill trim and hood release handle in reverse (don't forget t-25 screw!). Make sure to slot kick panel into groove on left side of new DP too. Test hood release function (after re-latching from when you released in step 1).
8 - Remove existing rubber brake pedal pad by prying from left& right edges toward you and then down when middle tabs release (reach behind):

9 - Slide new gas pedal over top of existing (correct nothing to remove from OEM). Start by hooking top and right side over pedal and work it around to get the bottom and left sides to cover. Stretch it a bit w/ your fingers and work the rubber until the lip entirely covers the OEM pedal.
10 - Attach new brake pedal by sliding up from bottom. Ensure rubber lip hooks on pedal, then push tabs thru oval holes in pedal and finally stretch the left & right sides around as well.
You'll end up w/ this:
just a bit better than
(how many Lexus lawyers have now forced us to 1/2 mats on drivers side... remember the good old days when the whole mat used to get jammed up in the pedals... or atleast thats what we told the pursuing LEO
Hopefully the winter/rubber mats are full size... I'll have to open that pkg next).
Next mods are to get passenger mirror to tilt out and down in reverse (not out and up) and stop rear window washer 'drip' when hot. But those are
for my local SA.
Good luck

Off topic but in an effort to share a quick fix for the mirror I believe if you put your Macan in reverse (foot firmly on the break please) then once the mirror points up just use the door control to adjust it down and the the right as you'd like it to point and then put it back in Park and that condition should be corrected for future use. At least it worked for me. GL
Thanks for the tip. It help... not to solve completely but at least it doesn't go up and right. Now it turns down at least... not inward yet but we're 50% ahead of where we were. Thanks
