Macan Entry and Drive

Two drivers, two key fobs, one in her purse and one in his pocket. Both get in the car at approximately the same time. Which key fob will the car use to set the seats and personal PCM settings? I have read the answer depends on who unlocks the car, but I am not sure about this.

When I ride along, my wife puts her purse in the back seat, and the car picks up the fob in my pocket, irritating her. When I drive, she keeps her purse up front and it picks up her fob, irritating me.

While driving down the road we have even seen the PCM reboot and switch PCM settings (although not the driver's seat position). If one or both parties keeps the key wrapped up in a small Faraday cage (i.e., aluminum foil), the act of unwrapping/exposing one of the keys negates most of the advantages of Entry and Drive.

This is not a crisis, but it is an annoyance to which there must be a simple solution. My wife would be fine with me leaving the key locked up at home, but I do occasionally get to use the Macan and it's nice to have the car recognize me warmly instead of always having to be reintroduced through my memory button. I am too big to enter the car with her seat settings, and it rains here a lot.

Related note: When we took delivery of our Macan, her key was set up at the dealer for her use. After getting home, I set out programming my key only to find out it only allowed German on all the displays. I called the dealer (an hour plus away through ugly rush hour traffic) and they first recommended bringing the car back right away (I refused).

Finally, one of their German-speaking staff walked me through the considerable number of steps to get the car to speak English reliably. One of his strategies for putting the key out of range was to have me hold it out of the car through the panoramic roof. While I know this works, it is rather inconvenient to do in the rainy Pacific Northwest.

I was advised when I took delivery of my Macan back in January that the key set up as #1 took priority if both in the car. Same thing with my previous BMW 650, my 991S and my Audi S5.

On both of my Porsche's it is the one used to unlock the car. If your wife's was used to unlock the car, then her programmed settings should be the one that is used.
