Looking @ CPO Macan
Looking @ CPO Macan
Hi All!
I am looking into a CPO Macan for the wife after she fell in love with a loaner the dealer gave us and I am not sure where to start...
I know the market is a bit strange right now, so I am not even sure this is the right time to buy + at initial glance, some of the years/models are more/less problamatic than others.
Don't really have a price range in mind, I just thought CPO would be the way to go here, open to non-CPO potentially as well but looking to learn about which years/models are good/bad + what to look for in a PPI....
Any tips on primer threads or research is greatly appreciated! Looking forward to joining the Macan family in hopefully the near future!! Thanks!!

Depending on the version you have, you could have some concerns. It depends also on the year Macan you're looking at. Mileage is another possible gotcha. Along with number of previous owners, where in the U.S. it 'lived'. Think salt or flooding.
The big ticket items for the earlier versions are mostly limited to the 3.0L and the 3.6L engines. Think GTS and Turbo models of Gen1. The TCC (timing chain cover) can leak oil. it bit me right at 30,000 miles. Done under warranty with a loaner and no questions asked. Without a warranty, you'd be looking between $5K-$7K. The engine must be dropped to do it right and the alignment is checked afterwards. There have been documented issues with the front Transfer Case (TC). Porsche has granted/allowed a 6 or 7/100,000 warranty on them. So that's not an issue. Other niggles have been the lower A/C line, some alternators and infrequent valve cover leaks. I'm starting to see a few flex- joint boots being torn or ripped from age or use. This was pointed out on an older Macan with a higher mileage. DCT issues are infrequent as well. I bought new. But, on any used cars I've ever bought, without first hand knowledge of the previous maintenance and servicing of my rides, all fluids and filters and plugs were changed. All of them. I baseline all my vehicles. I want to know what I'm driving. But that's me.
