Mercedes SLR vs Porsche Carrera GT?
Mercedes SLR vs Porsche Carrera GT?
I'm in the market for one of those two cars, yes I know they have quite different characteristics, but I'm going to choose between those two. I guess SLR is more "daily friend" but CGT is a "weekend warrior". I'm modding my cars, so that's an important factor too, which one is more mod-friendly? What power would I get most out of those two?
I'm leaning a little bit more to CGT, but I don't know.
Which one would you pick? and why?
Thanks in advance.

I guess it really depends...
SLR is probably more of a cruiser than the CGT, and there is the auto vs. manual point to consider; but because of the supercharger it may be more mod friendly, at least power-wise, because of the impact an ECU upgrade alone would make.
Either way, the situation is win-win.
Not a bad selection to have to make.

I would get the CGT. The SLR is more moddable... and I suppose you could get more out of the CGT engine but that would be messing with perfection.
And if that's what you want to do, get the SLR.

First you need to decide if you want a GT or a (very hardcore) sports car. Its like deciding between a CLK63BS and a GT3. Very different cars.
P.S. You likely won't be able to even drive CGT in New York. Its very hard to drive it in stop/go traffic, you will stall very often. Plus the car is so low you'll seriously damage it if you hit potoles.

if you can afford one, you can afford both
good luck with the decision, i would take the slr if i wanted more of a streetable car that i would be able to take out of town on the weekends, the cgt would probably be alot of fun to drive though, good luck with the decision

SLR would be so much easier to handle about that problem. And I'll get a cheap daily driver if i get the CGT, but wonder if i need that with the SLR?
And on the other hand, CGT feels a lot more special and collectible than the SLR.
Anyway it's 30-70% to CGT now, will decide soon

Thanks all you guys for your comments. They're really helpful.
I would have voted for the CGT, but after reading an article in Luxury&Exotics of a Kleeman modified SLR, I'd take the SLR. If you want a driver there is no question the SLR is far more useable. If you want to pet it in your garage get the CGT.
The SLR.
It is a dd,the cgt is not.
performance wise, apart from a minor low speed accelaration advantage for the cgt, the SLR is just as fast and there is actually nothing between them on mid and high speeds.
The SLR has a phenomenal torque and in gear accelaration and braking power.
the cgt im experience is a far more limited usage car with its difficult clutch and low clearance nose, does sound better though...
The other night i did a run in a cgt against a normal SLR and at 328 km/h on the speedometer the SLR was side by side (he did read on his speedo 340km/h though)
Again imo the SLR is a much more of a "real"car which match up the cgt top performance without all the hussel and that what i wpould have bought, maybe a 722
