2004-2006 E55 help and opinion

My brother is leaving the BMW family, he drove a E46 M3, but he is now searching for a E55 2004-2006. We would like to get your advise and thoughts on reliability, things to avoid, and the pros and cons of this particular car. Any help would be appreciated.

Go for 2005-2006 model year cars. These later cars were equipped with quicker steering rack that makes them feel sportier than the early cars.

Bi-xenon headlights are must have on any W211 E. The halogen headlights are weak.

The OEM intercooler pump is very prone to failure on W211 E55s. If you experience supercharger shutoff after a few hard pulls, that's a sure sign of a bad intercooler pump. Plan on replacing this part if it hasn't been taken care of by previous owner.

I would (as with any used car especially German) definitely get an extended or certified pre-owned warranty with the purchase. I see no problems as a daily driver!

-just sayin

W211 E55 is a great daily driver. I drove mine year round in Colorado (with winter tires from November to March). I agree with the recommendation to get a warranty - my after market warranty easily paid for itself within 18 months.
