I've always wanted to see if I could upgrade the new triangle airbag steering wheel the 2009+ SL's are running into my 2003 SL 55 but I've been told by most it can't be done and I always wondered if that's true or not.

I know the wheel will fit on just that the electronics might not work but why? Some told me i need a new transmission computer to work the shift peddles which i really dot get cause aren't the mech inside just a few wires? but even so in theory, what if I ripped out the old shifting mech from the old steering wheel and fit it somehow after all they're really the same parts and sizes.

Then there's the airbag which no one really mentions whether if the electronics can be adapted to the old SL but I'm guessing worse comes to worse i don't connect the wires an airbag warning will light up which i can shut off with the star unit.

Any opinions anyone?
