Exhaust for an ML55 AMG?

Just picked up a nice clean ML55 AMG for a winter daily driver from a fellow 6Speeder. Told myself that I wasn't going to go mod crazy but, the stock AMG exhaust is a little too tame for my taste. Any suggestions on an after market? Or my idea was to either remove the huge resonator with a straight pipe or see what would happen if I installed a "test pipe" to replace the 2nd. down stream cats (in the mid section of the vehicle).

My E55 has a full stainless RENNTech system, headers to rear pipe. Would like to sound closer to that w/o spending the $$.

TIA.

After 4 trips down to the local muffler speed shop, finally have a system that I am happy with. Can't couldn't touch the cats so, we started by cutting off the resonator and replaced with a flowmaster 50 series SUV muffler. End result sounded like stock, the only thing that was different was my wallet. The last change was to cut off the rear muffler and start up the ML. The sound was right! So we ended up just running a Y pipe and splitting off to duals using the stock tips.
The sound: at idle sounds only slightly lower tone. Cruising between 2-3K louder and deeper, slight drone on deceleration. On the gas, real nice!

Mohammed,

Thanks, it's a good winter ride.

King,

Sorry, no pix and it's been raining everyday. Install is clean in the middle where we installed the muffler. From the muffler back, doesn't look as clean as I would have wanted. In order to have the rear look stock utilizing the OEM AMG tips we had to "Y" from the single rear pipe that goes over the rear live axles to the tips, there is not a lot of room.
