MB quality control sucks!

I had to take my GL450 in this week because of an SRS failure light. No big deal, they had to replace a wire with a more robust one per TSB. I also let them know that it had a rough 2-1 downshift when rolling to a stop. It turns out that the trans fluid was very low. There were no leaks or anything so they told me that it must have been underfilled at the factory!?!? If they are going to make a maintenance free tranny with no dipstick, shouldn't they at least fill the damn thing to an appropriate level? I put 7800 miles on the damn thing and they would have never noticed it if I didn't mention the downshifting issue.

Wow, sorry to hear that. SRS is VERY common... Tranny issue, bull****. That is bad that the Tech didn't go over the entire vehicle THROUGHLY! Hell, thats what they get paid for!

Sorry to hear your bad experience!

Let me know if there is anything I can do.

I was just reading over this again, and was wondering when exactly you had this done? There has actually been a TSB on replacing the harness, and it is usually back-ordered to Germany for a week or two. The wire repair is what they were doing about a month back, but since then, everytime we see it, we have to order the harness from Germany.

We ordered a CLK 500 a few years ago (whenever the new bodystyle came out -- 2004?) It came in and drove really poorly, in addition to haveing a broken trim ring around the gearshift. The techs drove the car and couldn't figure out what wad wrong with it, but agreed it drove like crap.

About a week later, they called and said that Mercedes had mounted the directional front tires on the wrong sides of the car at the factory, they fixed it and the car drove 100% better....needless to say we took a pass

MB is not the only one, BMW w/ their Z8's had warping issues with the suspension which caused the body panels to have large gaps. It was discovered in EUR, but US owners are forming a class action suit to sue BMW because they won't cover the problem.

heh most of the wiring for MB is done here in RO. even if they are built by MB specs , the quality is low.

VW has serious troubles to turbo's and MAF sensors in Europe for all diesel models.

Trust me, its not only in Europe! We went through so many MAF's for the short period of time I worked there. I probably sold 2-4 a day....

Yea I know what you mean, we had not 1, not 2, but 3 2004 Audi S4's...Audi bought them back -- the longest one lasted was 300 miles

..and then we bought a VW R32 instead which we had no problems with
