SLR illegal in PA?
SLR illegal in PA?
My mother does the title transfers at the local MB dealer. They just sold a SLR last week and the guy returned it today. He was pulled over by the state police and they told him that the SLR can't be driven in PA. Does anybody know why?
did the guy get proof? he probably changed his mind.
For all I know the car is U.S. Legal(50 state).
Shoot if it's legal in CA and they are strict here I honestly don't see what's the issue.

I'll ask her to see if she can find out more on monday. My brother said it could be the way the exhaust dumps out in front of the door. I searched the web and could not find anything.
It's because the side exhaust exits before the front door. This is a regualation here in Missouri as well.
I know this because my father has a friend who works at a MB dealer here and they had one in their showroom - it was borrowed from their sister dealer in KC and could not be sold here due to the side exhaust exiting BEFORE the front door. Very stupid regulation! I've heard of this being a law before, but never believed it until I heard it from the dealer themselves. I would imagine this is the same issue in PA. I'm sure an under the table offer might change the DMV's mind though
Oh yeah, yhe cop who pulled him over is a d-bag ;D

This is correct. SLRs are not street legal in all 50. This is also the law in Maryland. MB dealers could not sell SLRs. Many had SLRs on showroom floors for a LONG time. Cars were ultimately sold out of state.
Possible to register a car in another state but operate it in PA, MD, MO, etc. Several owners had multiple residences and registered them at their out-of-state residence. Also possible to operate it on a dealer tag, from what I know.
