if he really wants it, he can fly over with a mechanic and take a look at it to see if its worth it, he'll be saving a bundle

I am serious, but not for right now. I need a base car first, and then an engine transplant.

Maybe by that time there will be some wrecks from which to choose? We shall see!

Thanks so much, though. I posted this on FChat, but I got different prices, about twice as much, and supposedly he had a source in AMG.

Eh.

I'll have to look again but there was a high end junkyard on the east coast that had a few motors to choose from.

I think there is a wrecked S55 in the San Francisco craigslist, with the complete engine, wiring, and car for around 20-25k.

Hmmm, buy the car, take out the engine, sell the other crap on eBay. Not bad.

Looks like there's a 55 motor on car-part.com for $7500. The entire site doesn't have a 600 or 65 motor though.

Thanks, guys!

As I said, I can't buy until I get the car, but it seems there is a good market for S55 engines, especially used. Maybe my plans need tweaking!

Cheers!

shoot, just find a used or new Chrysler Crossfire SRT-6, same drivetrain and handbuilt amg engine as the slk32 AMG. $47k car new, low $20's used, only made in 2005. How do I know this? Just picked one up brand new for mid $20's. Bargain of the year, 0-60 under 5 sec.
