The sports pkg on various benzes includes the AMG "bodykit" and wheel package. These cars come with the ///AMG badge on the back from the factory. Lots of SL500s rolling around SoCal like this. Some are BS, some aren't, it's hard to tell.

actually they are all BS. Unless they come with the AMG engine, suspension, brakes, interior, and all the other tidbits than it is NOT an AMG. Many people buy the sl500 that has the amg package (wheels + bodykit) and have the deaker throw on the amg badge on the rear. Its pathetic that some people are driving nice cars and are still not content and have to fake it. Oh well

Both BMW and Mercedes do this, on BMWs the M Sport kitted cars have //M badges and similarly AMG doesn;t just create the E55 etc, but also bodykits etc and hence such cars are equipped by the AMG factory like this.

Audi has jumped on the bandwagon with the S line stuff. They all do it. Its called cashing in on your customers aspirations.

The problem is when you see 320 BMW's with M3 badges, or E320 Mercs with E55 badges.

Some people claim that there was a special CLK430 amg edition released before the 55's, but I think either the dealer fed them a line with the sport package and added a badge, or they added the badge as a compensation thing

Yes, only true AMG models (engine, suspn, etc - - 2 number variants), come with the AMG trunk badge.

AMG body kit does not suffice.

I see fakes with AMG badges ALL the time. But what's the point? Anybody that knows what "AMG" is, knows that that is NOT one. Those that can't tell, don't know what AMG means... So who are they fooling?
Saw an older SL yesterday with SL500 AMG on the back. Didn't even make an AMG body kit or version in that body style... I wanted to get next to him and say "WOW! Is this, like, the only AMG of this body style?? So rare!".

 

BMW doesn't put m badges on their sports package cars, as mercedes puts AMG badges on theirs. The 330i Performance package has no M labels, with a possible exception on the steering wheel, and by the air nozzle on the wheels. I think AMG should be reserved exclusively for AMG engine cars, it loses certain exclusivity if not. You can def tell the fakers though, and those are people who just have the car for status, not because they are true drivers or car lovers.

 

Like many above said, there is NO car that rolls off the Mercedes production line that has an AMG badge that is not a double digit model.

There is no S500 AMG, no CLK430 AMG, etc... only doubles. I love seeing 600 models with AMG badges... better yet seeing a 430 model rebadged a 600! Fools!





I wish I had my camera on me, but on my way to work this morning I saw a BMW //MX5... 3.0! Sick!

 

^I'm not so sure about this. I'm not calling BS, but if this is the case then it must be one helluva coincidence that ALL SoCal dealerships equip their sports pkg cars with AMG badges on the trunk lid, and they are all lined up perfectly like the factory does it.

 

I would ask what dealerships. I think it mostly OC dealerships cashing in on the AMG name. They can very easily stick these badges on the car. Just like they can debadge, the dearship can buy the badges and have them ready as soon as the cars come in from the VPC.

 

No AMG engine with badges = POSER ! Just like in the 80's when all the 430SEL "playa's" put 560SEL badges, LOSER !

I'm sorry but you and zamirz and someone else who said it are wrong.

Only "authentic" AMG cars get the badge. Just look at the ebay. Most of the MB's with sport package don't have the badge.
