I have an 06 E55 and it's been 99% bulletproof. Only 2 very minor warranty issues and thankfully no electrical gremlins or driveline problems.

With all the torque i expected to chew through tires in 7K miles like on my 996TT, but I actually got 19,000 miles out of my first set!

My suggestion is to get a fully, fully loaded one (bi-xenon, adaptive seats, keyless go, trunk closer, bluetooth, parktronic, etc). The cost difference on a used car is minor, but the difference in daily enjoyment is tremendous.

Stay away from 03 completely. Take an 04 on a case by case basis. The 05 is almost bulletproof. The 06 is flawless.

The E55 is an amazing car and if it is your daily driver and especially if your wife is going to be driving it, then its perfect. Puts a big smile on your face everytime you stomp on the gas and leave ESP off. BTW, the E55 is faster than the E63 0-100.

If you want to mod the E55 you can see some great gains and get the thing to run in the mid-high 11's on the 1/4 mile.

Congratulations, you'll enjoy it.
