S-Class or LS460??????
I own an S65 but my business partner owns a new LS460, I am very impressed and even though I own an S-Class here's my thought:
S63 or 65 > LS460 > S550
In other words, I love the power the S63 and S65 have so I wouldnt take the LS over it. BUT - if it came down between the S550, well the LS is just as good if not better on performance, love the interior over the S for sure, would save a bundle and with the savings Id put some nice wheels on the LS to dress it up to get rid of the Fugly wheels it comes with and we got a winner! And Id still have money left over! Well - thats my 2 cents!

Soon. It has been raining here pretty steadily over the past couple of weeks, and I just spent this morning putting a new exhaust on my son's Civic; definitely ricer (he laughs about that terminology being applied to the car). We just put the digital camera on the charger. I will not be taking any pix, because I truly suck at that, so I will have to recruit the wife or one of my other kids to do that.

Well Stated. I would agree entirely.
And coincidentally, my business partner would choose the LS and I the S-63.

It sounds like you want to keep this car for a decent period of time since you mentioned repair work outside of the warranty. IE you get the Lexus and don't even consider the MB.
Lets face it, the new MB's may be improving, but when it comes to reliability, they can't shake a stick at current Lexus's.

... s all the way - ls is such an old man car, its a caddy for a smarter crowd (sorry, but american cars are still junk imo)... nothing more

Again, I reiterate, it isn't even a debate on those grounds. Lexus owns Merc in that department over and over again.
And you guys are actually recommending an S-Class? Listen to the criteria he wants; not a drivers car, not the most expensive, the most stylish, the fastest, but the most reliable.

"I own a 2007 S550 4Matic, delivered first week of November 2006. Summary: great ride in terms of handling, performance and user-friendliness, but major quality problems during the 10,000 miles, I have owned the car up to now.
Major quality problems up to now:
1 the engine had been wrongly mounted, causing vibrations in the powertrain. Mind you, the front axle and the steering column had to be decoupled to be able to replace the engine mounts!
2 engine oil sensor was defective, requiring two stops at the dealer and exchange of the sensor in the engine
3 the premium leather of the front seats had been improperly stitched and wrongly put over the seats. Result: the seats had to be redone.
4 the anti-lock brakes have locked twice. The dealer has not been able to find out, what happened.
5 the wiper/washer system at times wipes, when there is no water on the windshield, and at times does not wipe, when the windshield is full of rain water."
Would you recommend this vehicle to a friend?: No
