Regular DVDs.

The Xbox 360 HD-DVD can play both regular DVDs or HD-DVDs (that's why it's called Xbox 360 HD-DVD add-on), but off course not blu-ray DVDs (BD).

 

The actual HD-DVD add on can play DVDs too? Is the quality better than playing it in the 360? (heard the quality of DVDs in the Xbox sucked)

 

Yes, but I never play regular DVDs on my HD-DVD drive since I have a standalone DVD player.

Quality-wise, should be the same. The 360 HD-DVD drive doesn't upscale standard DVD to high-def 720p/1080i.

 

unless the xbox is connected via VGA..
i have my box connect to my LCD via VGA and it upconverts pretty well.
