My first 996 Oil Change
My first 996 Oil Change
My friend is going to let me put the old girl up on his lift tonight so that I can perform a long overdue oil change. I've done oil changes before but not on this car. I know it takes about 9quarts and that it's pretty simple (I did a 6speed search). Anything else you think I need to know?
Mobil1 0W-40 should do it right?

Have a look here for Loren's complete how to: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=7055
well the change went pretty smoothly until it came to fill it up. I put in 9 quarts and the dip stick read at the mimimum mark. The digital oil gauge said I had about 3/8 fill. It was all very wierd. After a few days it started registering more and more and now the dip stick reads at the full mark.
I am not sure about the 996 but I think the principal is the same.... When I change the oil I do the sump first and then the engine. After it drains completely, I empty the used oil into larger (4 qts?) oil jugs to measure how much came out so I know how much to put back in. Also, you can get a sample of your engine oil and mail it for an analysis to make sure you don't have any premature engine wear and they let you know how much longer or shorter you need to make your oil changes.
