A real fancy concours to go to!

The St. Michael's Concour d'Elegance (http://www.stmichaelsconcours.com/) is on Sept 28th. All the cars invited have won at least one major award at a significant concours.

This is Pebble Beach on the east coast without the thousands of people. The cost is $50 and all goes to the Red Cross.

The concours is held at the Inn at Perry Cabin which is situated right on the water. Its a beautiful time of year in a beautiful part of our world. This is a beautiful, elegant place to take the wife (if you've got one of those). There are quaint restaurants and antique shops, all that kind of stuff.

I don't think I'll be judging at this one but I will be photographing and videoing extensively.

If you go to just one concours this year, go to this one, you won't regret the effort!

Here is a list of the participating cars.

Not my idea of a good time, there isn't a car newer than 1939 there. These are museum pieces, not cars. That's just me though.

I can understand that

I can definitely understand that but think of it this way. These are vehicles that come from an era of coachbuilt cars. You bought the chassis and engine from Packard, Rolls Royce, Duesenberg, whomever, then went to a coach builder who designed a custom body for you. They are indeed, museum pieces that we are lucky enough to get a chance to see in person. There are so many fabulous details to ponder.

Think about the last photo, its of a competition Alfa Romeo, straight 8, supercharged with over 200hp. It was a fast car in its day. Now of course, a Toyota could stay up with it but still the fascination remains of witnessing a piece of history that will never be revisited.

One of the other Alfas that were there had a simple oil gauge on the block, visible thru the hood from which a mechanic could instantly tell if there was sufficient oil present.

What is truly unique with the St Michael's Concours is that you are getting a chance to see museum pieces in the flesh. All of the cars last year drove on and back off the field during the course of the day. You'd be surprised how throaty some of the cars sounded.

At Amelia Island I was able to see a 19 liter total oil loss aeromotored Benz-Mercedes thunder down the field.

If you haven't had a chance to get to Pebble Beach or any of the high end concours, consider taking a 2 hour trip to see this one.

Just my 2 cents.

regards

ken

Yep, she's a stripper on a pole on a 20's Rolls Royce "Playboy". I never got the full story on that one.

As I said, you never know what kind of details you will run into at these high end shows.

Ttt

The concours is this Sunday. If you are into the rolling sculptures of the 20s and 30s, this is a unique opportunity to see some of the finest examples in the world. Think about it, the Great depression is what ended this era of cars. Sounds familiar. Global warming and the great mortgage meltdown...vs 500 hp sports cars of today

I'm rolling down early Saturday morning to catch the road rally, then hanging out for the night in Cambridge. I'll be back out there early in the morning.

So who else is going?

Hope to see some of you out there. Be forwarned, it does cost $50 to get in. All the proceeds go to the Red Cross.

Do you mean follow me there? I'm rolling out real early Saturday to shoot the rally. Then I'm hoping to shoot a couple of Shelbys at a private residence. Then I want to do some video of the Lexus 600h L that I'm driving then go party with a buddy of mine on a houseboat somewhere out there. Then get 4 hours sleep and get up to see the sunrise. Then go to the concours. It should be a full few days.

Check out this link to see what the place looks like. The grassy area is where all the cars will be parked.

Here are the directions: From 495 and 50 it should be a 1.5 hour drive or so.

9. Take exit 19A to merge onto US-50 E toward Annapolis
Partial toll road
41.1 mi
10. Take the US-50 E exit toward Ocean City
0.3 mi
11. Slight right at Ocean Gateway/US-50
16.3 mi
12. Slight right toward Easton Pkwy/MD-322
0.1 mi
13. Slight right at Easton Pkwy/MD-322
Continue to follow MD-322
1.9 mi
14. Turn right at MD-33/St Michaels Rd
4.0 mi
15. Slight right at Easton Claiborne Rd/MD-33/St Michaels Rd
Continue to follow MD-33
5.8 mi
16. Turn right at Watkins Ln
62 ft

308 Watkins Ln
St Michaels, MD 21663

Its actually quite easy to get to, follow the direction, go thru St Michaels, just past the maritime museum you'll see a field on the right with trailors parked on it and car parking. Thats the place.
