Al - love that set-up. I was going to do that myself but don't have enough height in the garage.

Alex - that problem is solved with either Al's proposal or you are more than welcome to leave the 997 or the Panny in MY garage. . Hell man, sell the Panny and forget the GT2, just buy ONE Carrera GT. Problem solved!!!

Van - don't do FLA bud. I'm glad you listened to me (but I'm sure you were thinking the same thing) and had the wifey "test out" living in FLA. You could probably get a great deal on Tiger's house.

Al, that's pretty bad @ss!!!!! I didn't think of that. I think I"l be ok in the spring as my wife wants to move and I told her next house has to have minimum 4 car garage, prefer 5 car but if not, I think I will do the lift set up. My current garage height is over 15 feet so I think the lift would work. HOw do you keep it from hitting the ceiling? Does the lift automatically stop at a certain height?

The CGT is enticing but I realized I would have the same issue with teh CGT as I did with the 430, NEVER really get to drive it. Work is killing me and in 3 weeks I had the 430, I put less than 50 miles on it.

Al I noticed that you probably removed your garage opener on that bay...or did you just move the placement of the opener? Do you open it manually?

^^Alex - I think in those set ups you need to RAISE the garage door winch as well as the rails to accomodate the extra height.

I think mine is already set up to accomodate something like that, with the exception of the opener motor that would have to be either removed or relocated. My garage celing is actually pretty high

Perfect - then you should be all set. I saw one in Oregon for sale in 6speed for like $2K a while back. The cost to ship was the only reason it wasn't financially sense for me to get, but otherwise would have grabbed it and held it for the next house.

My garage is only 11' high, so I had my garage door guy installed a high lift kit which basically extends the rails as close to the ceiling as possible. He switched out the old door opener which hung from the middle of the ceiling to a Liftmaster Jackshaft open which is hung on the wall right next to the top of the door. For my 911's, even if I raise the lift to the highest level, I don't touch the ceiling. Obviously, if I put a sedan on the top, I would have the watch it. As you can see in the picture, even with the ramps still connected, I can drive the other 911 straight in. The ramps can be removed if you have a taller vehicle. The lift is a 4-post lift. It's more for storage than for a mechanic (although you can buy a cross brace which you can put a bottle jack on to raise one end if you want). I don't even bolt it into the ground. Gravity does its thing. As I recall, the lift was around $3K, maybe a little over, and I paid somebody around $1K to install it. No matter how big your garage is, you can still use this setup, because simple math says you can double the number of toys .

Nice, $4K for an extra space is a CRAP LOAD cheaper than building another GARAGE. How much did the rail extension and mod to the garage door opener cost?

Al, I was looking at the pic again and I think your garage is deeper than mine. I recall my 997T didn't have as much room as you do in yours.

I think the guy charged me around $1200 total for the high lift kit, new opener and labor for everything.

Al - when you have the chance, can you PM me the name of the manufacturer of the lift and also the name and contact info of the installer? May I use your name as the referrer when I contact the installer? Thanks.
