I agree with what others have added so far... Keep the 996, you won't get that grin-factor with the others on your list. I used to own a Rover and as much as I loved it when all was well, it simply had too many problems for me to recomend another to a friend. There's also something to be said for a tow vehicle you don't feel the need to park in the last parking spot as far away from others as possible. A loaded Grand Cherokee would do the trick nicely...

Berk,

No go on RRSC. I had one, its junk. lots of small problems that you would hate and regret. I would say ML63. Mercedes has BEST service facility, if anything get CPO with 6y/100k warranty for peace of mind. and with 7200 lb towing capacity, you can tow your porsche no problem.

Than you are SET my friend.

Had a 07 full size RRSC and like others have said - great car when it did not have its issues. Never had any serious problems with engine, drivetrain or electronics. But had to take it in several times for little things like external and then internal squeeking noises, plastic pieces falling off inside and out of the car. These things are common and unacceptable in a car that costs that much. The sport models also have these issues but on top of that they go through tires and brakes more often then you can imagine per the service writers at the dealership. As much as I loved it, I had to get rid of it before the warranty ran out. So I ended up getting a boring Lexus Suv.
I would definitley not get rid of your porsche, you need that pure sports car need fullfilled. For the Jeep brand I would only go with an actual wrangler, the suv's seem to be on the lists as for least reliable.
I dont know what kind of suv you currently have, but if you really have to change go with the euro brands. Even though they costs more, they are cheaper in the end and are a better all around vehicle that better fit the needs you are looking for.

You have a hard decision ahead of you Berk. I got out of my 996 because I hadn't started with the forced induction work you did. I knew I had a lot of equity and could move that over to another car. I think my new 500HP, 4-door beast was a good trade!
Trust me, I will own another Porsche once my daughter can actually ride it in. I have one planned for the future but it will be a 911 Turbo from the factory and it has to be at least a 2010 model because the 997 has grown on me.
I also wanted to mention I see your appeal to the SRT-8 Jeep. That is a hot truck plus you can add a S/C to it if you want even more power!!!

Good luck with your research!

Looking back at the short-list if you're really set on going with one set of wheels the ML63 AMG would be my choice.

I'm thinking of getting rid of the Wrangler in spring and adding one of those to sit next to the Lotus.

[quote=Scott in SS MD;3029836]I've said this in other threads about the Rovers. A guy I know is a rover mechanic and he said he would never own one. They all go in for model specific problems. They are more status then they are functional. I have yet to see one at the track as a tow vehicle./quote]

This X100!!!
I know a couple of Rover techs. They both say that they would never own one. Thery are a really nice looking POS, and may be proof that you CAN really polish a turd!

[quote=BMWDEMON;3030009]I agree...Rover for status...it is junk
Keep the Porsche...ehem, look at me.

I wouldnt disagree with you on other rovers, particularly th full size range, the range rover sport is a completely different vehicle and is far from junk. It is excellent in the snow with just an all season tire. In fact I have the stock 20" with an all season on it and drove every day in last yrs snow storms. No problems whatsoever. Ive also taken it offroad with the stock summer tire and had no issues. The late 2006 model through the 09 are realatively bullet proof. All the gremlins were worked out. I cant speak to the 10 and 11 as it has many new electronics and new engines.

Check out rangerovers.net for more info. My personal experience has been great in all weather and terrain and have 50K plus with no major issues.

BTW Berk, I added the 2010 led tails...easy mod.

g55 is next for me

I've previously owned (and loved) the cayenne and m5. Benz G55 is next for me. I don't see them everywhere and I think the performance and styling are a 10/10.

Only one answer

Jeep SRT8 - everything in one package, completely reliable, incredible motor...

I personally am replacing my Monty XLS with a new Jeep Cherokee Overland.

Been there and done that Berk...twice. I am kicking myself in the *** right now. Had my M5 for about 6 months. Sold it and bought a 997S and a beater ('98 4Runner) for bad weather, HomeDepot, dog hauling. Sold the 997S because it wasn't that great as a DD and bought a 335 about a year ago. Next move is to sell the 335i and upgrade the 4Runner to an '04-'05 for $14-15K and make it my DD and then buy another 911 (be it 993S, 996TT (again), 997.1 TT or 997.2 S) as my "fun car".

The one car thing just didn't work out for me. I know you love your Porsche. Don't let your "boredom" force you into doing something you will regret.

Just think about it and take your time.
