4th Annual VIR Track day 6/04/2012
Oak tree corner is the slowest corner on the circuit (second to left hook corner), it's a very important corner however as it leads onto the 3000 ft back straight which is one of two fastest areas on the circuit.
Wes have you been on VIR many times? if so with which groups did you run? Oak Tree is a signiture corner to VIR, it's often one of the places where they take the most photos of cars exiting through.

***Departure Time Changed to 1pm******
A few of the attendees from the GTR board will be caravaning to VIR this coming Sunday. We've decided to meet at Springfield Mall which is just under 300 miles from VIR and should take right around 5 hours not including bio-breaks, food, or gas stops. In an effort to arrive at VIR a little earlier this year and enjoy some of the days activities we should leave Springfield mall around 10:30am. This will get us to VIR around 4:00, give or take.
Here's the address to Springfield Mall, 6500 Springfield Mall, Springfield, VA, which is just off 95.
If anyone is planning to join us please reply or shoot me a PM so we know to wait or coordinate accordingly.

^^^ Ion I don't think it will take 5 hrs from Springfield interchange, more like 4 hrs from that point, if we take the way I ussually take (95 to 360 to 58 into Danville). I've been going to VIR since 2001 and have taken every possible route over the years and on many diffferent days. Sunday also is not a heavy traffic day. I propose we move the departing time from Springfield mall to maybe 11:30 or heck even noon... we will get to the track with plenty of time on hand. I've left Baltimore at 2pm and made it to the track by 7:30 towing a race car and in traffic on a Thursday or Friday.
We have a big day on Monday that will start very early, Sunday is a driving day, no real need to rush, let people sleep in a bit on Sunday to prepare for Monday. I dunno what Day's activities you are reffereng to for Sunday unless you are reffering to the dinner they have planned but that's in the evening, track is shut at 5pm, any group there will be leaving from 3pm and later, if there is even a group running. Sunday at the track is very quiet, nothing going on.
just my 0.02...

^^^ Not a question of +/- an hour, if we get there too early the track will not be open, they shut and re-open for the new group depending on time and rental scheuling, with exception to race weekends to let transporters enter the paddoc on exception.... leaving springfield interchance at 10:30 is unnessary and we won't have traffic...
what do I know I've only been going there for 11 years...

!!!!I've taken this trip many times over the years, in all kinds of times, weather conditions, traffic patterns, and various routes. I mean it's whatever....I'm just saying that it's kinda early that's all...had I made the caravan plans or been asked for my input on them I would have chosen a later Springfield interchange departure time.
^^^ bob this is not a race it's a drivers school... And were talking about departure times well early the day before. Heck I remember working a full day, coming home loading the truck and trailer, picking up the car, driving 6 hrs to get to the track, unloading everything, and then waking up at 5am for a 7am drivers meeting... And that's after going thru the checks, prep, and tech on the car in the morning... And this was for a race weekend
...
The plan this event is to have a fun time, enjoy the camaraderie, enjoy the track, learn a bit, and enjoy a relaxed time thru the whole thing
Why didn't you register?

He found out you were instructing.
I will be trailering down because I have to bring a bike back, so you'll see me at the mall with the bid dog... all black.

*****Travel Plan Update*****
Sharif, the event organizer, posted on NAGTROC that VIR may not lets into their faciltiy until after 5-5:30pm. In reaction to this news I'm moving our departure time to 1pm. Lets aim to meet at Springfield Mall at 12:30pm. When factoring in bio-breaks, gas, and food stops we should arrive at VIR a little after 5.
