My wife got a Mini from the BMW dealer as a loaner and this is our first experience with one. It is pretty fun but I do wish it were an S and a manual but it is a demo, so I wouldn't expect either.

Stupid question but is it normal for the car to make a loud thumping, as though we're driving over railroad ties? I assume not but I wanted to check before we brought it back.

 

mine thumps all the time.. but if i go over railroad ties.. it's like a hit a rock. and the entire car rattles. I guess it's because the unibody frame is created so stiff and tight.

 

When I test drove a JCW a couple months back that kind of bothered me, but after speaking to other owners found out it's a common issue.
