I think I may be being dim but... I was told all 2nd Gen minis had a turbo (although only the S and JCW were supercharged)... can someone confirm if I am right or, correct me if I am wrong...

 

All first generation Cooper S, including JCW and GP, are supercharged. All second gen S, JCW and GP2 are turbocharged. ALL 3rd gen are also turbo including the base non-S (which is a 3 cylinder that accelerates better than a supercharged R53).
