Complete Nooob Here
Hi folks.
I've never been a big car guy but a recent plan to buy a new car sent me on a bit of an odyssey that has brought me here. I planned, after eyeing one for years, to buy an Audi S5. I went into two different dealers and basically threw my wallet on the desk. Would you believe they both jerked me around so much I decided that I didn't want an Audi THAT much. On to BMW and the 440 but after having a BMW as a rental I hated a lot of the controls and layout. So I started kicking around the other luxury makers. I tested a Maserati and loved it but it really didn't strike me as practical and I hear nightmares about maintenance. Then it was Mercedes where I fell in love with the SL 550. I also tested a 911 but maybe because it was a short ride and I hadn't driven a manual in 15 years I didn't care for it. Just wasn't impressed. Then while traveling I had a chance to test another one and I got hooked.
That got me to looking at CPO 911s and I've since tested a few only to realize that there's so much variation that I can't make an intelligent decision about buying one. I've talked to a few dealers and a friend (who told me about this place) who knows his way around cars. I need to learn more though. Which brought me here.
Test drives have me pretty sure that I don't want a cabriolet or a 4. I like the coupe and the pano roof.
I'm leaning towards an C2S with a manual transmission. I've been looking at CPOs on the Porsche website. I get the impression that the S will retain its value more than a C2. Getting up into the Turbo and GT is out of my price range. As the name implies I can be particular and hate cars with black interiors and everyone has gray/silver/white/black, so there aren't many that I'd be completely happy with, short of ordering a new one, which is a distinct possibility but I need to learn a bit more about what does and doesn't help a car retain its value since this is, for me, quite a bit of coin.
So my buy has been postponed and I'll be reading through here to see what I can learn from you all.
