New to Porsche, plenty of experience with "Money Pits"
Hello everyone,
It feels strange signing up to a forum in 2025!
I used to be active on the Subaru forums decades ago. EJ boxer motors are my specialty. I currently own a 99 Impreza 2dr that was my first car I bought. Its now a fully built "racecar" Stroked 2.35L, monster turbo, fully built PPG straight cut gears in the transmission. LSD's front and back. In its hay day, it ran the 1/4mi in 10.9 on pump gas and meth on 26psi.
I also have a 01 Forester that is my daily. It was a NA 5sp with 250k miles. I bought it back in 2019 and through covid built it from the ground up so other than the rear diff, rear axles and the driveshaft, everything else has been replaced. I did a turbo swap and rewired the car. I rebuilt the transmission in it with close ratio gearing. It keeps it in boost almost all the time. Its a blast to drive, but at best gets 17mpg on premium.
i also dabble in rusty old Datsuns. I have an 84 300zx turbo that has been a project on the back burner for years. It too was rescued from rotting away in a backyard with 300k miles on the clock. It has a similar story as the Impreza. Its on its way to a larger 3.3L displacement and a HX35 turbo.
Now to the newest addition.. My 04 Cayenne S. I just got it from an auction. Its possibly the cheapest Cayenne in existence. I paid $400 for it..lol Nobody bid against my lowball bid.
It was wrecked. Only a slight fender bender. The worst damage is the busted radiator. I see why it was totaled. The front bumper, inserts, and passenger headlight from Porsche run about half the cost of the car and we haven't even made it to paint!
Overall the car is in good shape. It has been neglected. It has 4 different tires, showed up 2 qts low of oil. The sticker in the windshield says it was last changed in 8/24 (over a year ago) and currently 7500+ miles ago. So it needs a little love.
No check engine lights. Only the low coolant and the air ride warning. It works as I went up and down with it yesterday.
Here are a few pics currently. I just fixed the bumper back after spending a couple hours washing the nasty off it. It actually cleaned up nicely!.
