Switching from 996GT2 to GTR
Switching from 996GT2 to GTR
After some research I've decided to switch from my 996GT2 to a GTR. I've had a 997 GT3, E60 M5, Evo X, Evo 8 but nothing seems to come close to what the GTR has. I've got two kids (10 +12) and it seems this car is practical aside from it being downright vicious in terms of performance. I loved the Porsche but after analyzing the GTR it seems a bit dated. Sure it's got curb appeal and heritage but I'm not insecure about my social standing so owning a GTR doesn't bother me. I'm looking at getting the HKS GT570 and looking at the Cobb access port. Just a bit cautious whether or not the tranny can take it.
Interesting kinda where I am have a 1998 Supra and 2008 M3 and tracking is all I care about. The M3 is driving me nuts as the dealer is terrible and planning to void warranty since I used Motul brake fluid better than there's and stainless lines and now I have a rotor pulsation. Since all removed and we are in limbo - think I will sell it and buy a GTR. For sale at www.ricksautomotive.com
You can always come back to the 911 family after the GTR. Personally I wouldn't buy a first year production car off the block. Let Nissan work out the kinks for the improved version GTR in the near future.
I have a GT-R. The rear seat leg room is almost non-existant. My G35 coupe has twice as much room. Make sure you take the kids & wife to the dealer & ask to sit in the GT-R if you are really concerned about the family friendly nature...
Funny, I'm in the SAME boat. I have a 98 Supra as a fun car (which incidentally I don't get to drive much) and an 08 IS-F as my daily. I'm thinking about a GT-R to replace both...

I've tried the rear leg room and can fit based on my requirements on the drivers seat. But I am only 5'7. Although I can fit in the back I can probably sit comfortably for a 30 minute ride. My kids ages 10 & 12 can fit easily but I wouldn't even use it for long trips.
Rasi54, ditch both cars. The GTR can be a good daily driver and beat other exotics on the track on the weekend. But having said that it's weight will mean more tire/brake pad usage if you track often.
