Snow

Does anyone drive their GTR year round that lives in the Midwest or other place where it generally snows 10-15 times from Nov-Mar?

Are you talking specifically in OH or anywhere with snow? Do they use excessive amounts of salt in OH?

My hopes has been to pick one up as a daily and mine would see snow. Thoughts?

There is little rustproofing on the steel subframes that are also prone to holding water.

My estimate is that a daily driven GTR in NE Ohio or anywhere that uses salt would see serious corrosion problems before 100K miles.

The Porsche's are set up from the factory to run in any conditions for a ton of miles, although when you hang hot exhaust components such as headers and turbos down below the car, you are asking for corrosion as well.

I don't see why you couldn't do any rust proofing on the subframes of the GTR. It may add a little more weight, but the P600 will fix that.

Is rustproofing just a spray or is there more too it?

Most basic services are just a spray on thing, heck I think you could DIY it if you had a lift, but to do it right I would drop the front and rear subframes and have them done individually, maybe a dip or something along those lines.

Wolfe is infamous around these parts
The car would be garaged at home and office and would be washed by hand once per month and washed through a touch-less car wash once a week or more (whenever it is dirty and is not snowing).

I need 4 seats in a car and would like the best performance possible for $80k or less. I am also considering a 2012 CLS 4matic, but really want another sports car. Other considerations are a 911, ML63, X5M, 2012 WK2 SRT8.

It appears dodge is back to there $200 per month short term leases for a 4 door 4wd Ram, so that is a consideration as well for snow days.

Frequent undercarriage car washes should really help. I doubt any of us will keep these cars long enough to see the long-term effects of salt corrosion on the subframe.

I just bought a GT-R on Friday with the expressed intention of daily-driving in Kansas City weather, 365 days a year. I am about to buy some Blizzaks, just shopping for the best price now. It appears $1500 is the going rate. Those or some other dedicated snow tire are near-mandatory for snow driving.

Out of that list, the X5M looks very tempting.

There is a guy on the local forums here in Anchorage, AK that daily drives his GTR, and we've gotten 81+ inches of snow so far this season. If you have any specific questions or concerns feel free to let me know and I'll forward them to him.

It snows in Fayetteville once every 2 years. I have driven mine on ice as well... And I did it on summer tires (like roller skates going sideways), but the AWD on the R35 is amazing).
