Nissan GT-R (lightweight)
Nissan GT-R (lightweight)
Hi Guys,
I just bought a '09 GT-R and looking into the weight savings I might do without ruining the daily driving profile. I am also going to build it a seperate 1000 HP engine to use in time attack, so i'll need the weight savings over there too. I did a little research and came up with the following (taking the nagtroc forum topics as reference) which will make me lose 311.5 lbs, do these seem valid to you? Of course there will be some added numbers with bigger turbos, intercoolers etc, but i would like to start from here first. Numbers beside the description indicates the saving amount vs stockers.
Switching to AMS CCB's - 62 lbs
Complete Exhaust - Around 40 lbs
Lightweight wheel/tyre set - Around 60 lbs
Bride Seats - Around 70 lbs
Rear Seat Delete - 17.5 lbs
Bose Subwoofer Delete - 9 lbs
AMS Carbon Hood - 10 lbs
AMS Trunk Lid - 4 lbs (keeping the stock rear wing)
AMS Carbon Roof - 9 lbs
Suspension - Around 30 lbs
Looking forward to your opinions,
Thank you!
Salih

There have been a lot of threads on this topic on more GTR based forums and the consensus seems to be there are few things you can do to save weight, most of which you listed, while keeping the car civil. If you've been looking at nagtroc though you have probably also seen the back and forth over whether the GTR was designed to be heavy to keep maximum traction (I don't follow this belief but figured I should mention it). Outside of what you have listed it starts to get costly but carbon fenders doors etc. are available but you start talking 2-3k for a few pounds. Good luck and keep us posted.
