Labor Day

The car felt not very responsive yesterday. Since I have everything, I decided to change the spark plugs and oil on Labor Day. Wow, never thought it would be that big of a job. It took me about 9 hours to do both... My first time to do plugs. Took a spin after and she put a smile back on my face. Not sure if I want to do it again... not easy money for Sharkwerks for sure.

Glad to hear she's back to normal. What were the symptoms you were seeing? Do you know how many miles you had on the set of plugs?

When I accelerated on high gears, the exhaust made that boat like sounds... hated that sound. My last plug change was at 22,000; the car has 29800 now. I believe mod cars have to do plugs more often than stock.

wow, at 7k miles the plugs are foul... maybe you need plugs of different temperature. i heard Beru is good and lasts longer. changing the plugs requires so much time and energy i would think it's worth having a shop do it. now i know why shops quote $1300 for th job.

Hi Dave, the plugs weren't foul but weren't performing as they were new. The car had Denso Platinum plugs for performance; however, hotter plugs don't usually last long and cooler plugs won't give the same performance. I installed some Denso Double Platinum plugs this time and they felt great when I drove the car last night. I guess I'm good for another 7k.

Wow -- it seems like the plugs should have lasted longer. I guess that's one of the costs of having so much performance .

Eugene, the plugs could have lasted longer, but since I had no plan for that day...

Yeah, but if your car wasn't driving right then the plugs were essentially done. Sounds like a day well spent.

I wouldn't say well spent, but a good learning experience.

yeah i looked up the how-to on 996tt plug change, it looked really challenging and complete PITA. i can't believe porsche made a plug change more difficult than a ferrari or lambo. on a gallardo, plug change takes about an hour.
