paint thinckness gauge

I'm picking up a car down in LA soon and want to check it for previous body work. Does anyone know where to purchase or borrow a paint thickness gauge locally in the bay area?

You may have a better chance with contacting a local body shop in la that works on the type of car you are buying. A paint gauge isn't 100% and anyone in the business can tell you if a car has had prior damage.
