Sad day...family dog is gone :(
SO yesterday I was at the office between patients and my mother calls and I could not make up what she was saying. She was crying and sobbing so bad that I could not make out what she was saying. I call back and she says our baby is gone. Our 4.5 yr old shih tzu, who has been the backbone and love of the family in many many ways, died on the spot when he was hit by a truck. My mother just came home and he always goes to the door that leads to the garage. I guess she came in, gave him love, and realized she forgot her purse in the car. She leaned into the car (on the opposite side compared to normal), and then heard him barking. She looked around and didn't see him; she looked outside and he lay in the street gone to doggy heaven. Both of us shed many tears, but she is devastated and has been crying nonstop. I drove down to the house an hour and a half away after leaving work early to say my goodbyes. He will be dearly missed and will always be our number one little baby. Please say a prayer for our little guy!
that sucks man!
My mom just found out that one of her Shih Tzu's has 3 broken discs in his back. Not a whole lot she can do about it except give him anti inflamatory medicine.
When it's time, I can get you a hookup on a miniature maltese 8 or so months from now. Let me know.

jay,
i'm sorry about your doggie. =( i'd love to see a picture of him. i bet he was a great buddy.
we have an 11 year old terrier that i've had since he was 8 weeks old. i can't imagine how painful it will be when he's no longer here w/ me. he's my best buddy.
may your little guy rest in doggy heaven peacefully.

It is definitely a much different world with him not being at the house. He was the life of the house...always running around, walking by everyone's side, and as mentioned always pouring out unconditional love. I went to the house yesterday and it felt so empty...scary empty and quiet (he was a riot in a great way) esp with the 30 feet ceilings. He had the most adorable bark, cutest little guy.

Very sorry to hear about your loss. I have two shih tzus and I love them more than anything - they are awesome 'lil companions. However, they'll bolt out the front door if left open so I live in constant fear that this will happen to them.
Wow, I'm sorry to hear. Such a sudden loss is always hard to handle. My dog growing up was a miniture schanuzer. She was about 16, deaf, blind and couldn't be let out of the kitchen because she couldn't control herself. My mother wrestled with herself for weeks on putting her down. Finally she realized that Shatzi was probably miserable and scared and letting her go is probably the best thing. She was a wreck for a few days after that and she still gets tears in her eyes when she's brought up in conversation.
My dog Aston has many years left, but she's not very bright and even when simply taking her for a walk, she likes to try to dart out into the street. My biggest fear is her getting out and getting hit by a car. People like to drive fast down my street and I've seen plenty of cats and racoons on the road (saw a poor cat just yesterday...) She's gotten out once but I was lucky and she didn't go the direction of the road.
