More Taxes?

Sent to me by a friend. I don't know if it's for real, but I intend to check it out next week with the legislative link.

Vehicle License Fee Bill SB6900

Hello,

There is a bill that the Washington State Legislature is trying to pass
in Olympia that, if successful, will directly add huge costs to our
vehicle license fees. Everyone needs to know about so this situation so
that you can contact your representatives and voice your objection.

The bill is SB 6900 and it adds an "engine displacement" fee to the
vehicle license tabs upon renewal.

The fee has a varied amount depending on the size of the vehicle's engine:

Engine Size (liters) Rate Schedule
Up to 1.9 $0
2.0 - 2.9 $70
3.0 - 3.9 $225
4.0 - 4.9 $275
5.0 - 5.9 $325
6.0 - 7.9 $400
8.0 or over $600

For each car & truck that you own, calculate the rate by matching the
engine size in liters to the dollar amount. Add the amounts for each
vehicle and you'll see that the average two car family will be paying
$500+ every year in "displacement fees" on top of the normal license
fees. If you have three vehicles, you'll be paying even more.

The average family is already struggling with the high cost of gasoline,
electricity, food and everything else, and our lawmakers want us to pay
more, thinking we have unlimited deep pockets. This will do great damage
to the budgets of retirees on fixed incomes as well.

Now is the time to be very vocal against this bill.

Here's the web page for the bill where you can read the text:

Here's the link for contacting your representatives:

If it does surface again and somehow pass, it would suck to be Viper, Z06, or large SUV owner.

What may suck for some of you is the alleged toll over 520.

Yeah, that will do nothing but f*ck traffic up.

Did you notice the Senators that sponsored this bill? I doubt their constituents really wanted this. They represent rich areas like Medina, Hunts Point, Magnolia, Madrona, Bellevue, and Kirkland. Lots of SUV's and luxury vehicles. But they also represent lower and middle income areas like Kent, Renton, Rainier Valley, Rainier Beach, and Beacon Hill. A $225 additional tax can be devastating to those households. We are fortunate as Porsche owners that we could probably have absorbed this tax had it gone through. I'm glad it got squashed. But what ticks me off most...these Senators will likely be re-elected as this region is sometimes too blindly "Blue"
Rodney Tom (D) Bellevue Kirkland Redmond
Jeanne Kohl-Welles (D) Magnolia Ballard Queen Anne
Karen Keiser (D) Kent DesMoines SeaTac
Adam Kline (D) Columbia Rainier Valley Renton

waaaaaaa! i live in redmond.....and we'd get the double whammy w/ 2 pcars and 1 suv. ackkkkk~ but at least they are the regular c2 and regular boxster, not the high hp's like some of the guys. so i guess considering, i'm not doing too bad!

i feel for those that have the newer, more powerful pcars/fcars, and multiple cars......that sucks for them if it were to ever get passed. =(

Jody the more hp/powerful cars wouldn't matter. It is based on displacement of the motor and not hp. The tax on Todd's carrera (3.4L) would be the same at a 997tt (3.6L) since they would fall in the same displacement category, even though the 997tt has 180 more hp and over 200 more torque. But for those with big SUVs (like you guys) you would pay a very high amount due to the large displacement of the motor.
