MaxRPM Q

Hey Everyone.
I ran into a few of you at last years Mt. St. Helens run when I was with the Scion crew driving an xB. I took quite a few pictures I didn't post them here, but I think Bruce wondered over to Scionlife.com or someone and got them. I can post the link again, if I can find it. Anyway I bought a VW R32 a few months ago as a daily and have finally gotten my xB done for show season and have money to start modding the :R. Finding a decent euro shop seems to be more difficult than it should (I am very picky).

Anyway to the point..

I need some basic stuff put on (headers, exhaust) as well as tuning done. I did call Alex @ MaxRPM (hence title), knowing that they do a lot of Porsche stuff and seeing posts here I figured I would ask if he is good and reasonable. I know shop time isn't cheap but I have zero issue paying for quality.

Thanks in advance.
William

I am sure that Alex could handle your needs...

Kelly (svc mgr at Speedware in Redmond) has a 430 hp turbo golf... he might be a good guy to chat with as well.

I am sure that Bruce could also reccomend a great shop as he had some pretty sweet VWs in the past...

Good Luck -- I really like the R32!

It is like a mini -- except it is cool

i recommend alex at maxrpm. i am also sponsored by them. =D the work they've done on my car has been great and they also support the pca. they also have tech sessions as well. there are several 6speeders that go also go to them. plus, if your in chehalis, they are pretty close by to you.

if you do go to them, you can tell alex that jody (boxstergirlie) from 6speed recommended them. =)

here are some pictures of the crew and shop:

LOL 430hp Golf. That's like putting a turbine engine on a pickup truck. What would a VW frame/suspension/wheels all together anything do with that much horsepower.

Some people just have way too much money I guess

Nice score w/a R32, cool car. I enjoy working w/Alex and the crew of MaxRPM. Modding any car these days can either be a trying or great experience. To answer your question, yes the quality is there.

best bang for the buck on the R32..GIAC chip, intake, and exhaust system. The R32 is an amazing car and so much fun to drive!

Please set Andrews straight and tell him there are a lot of 400+ hp golfs out there

add power, susp, software and brakes and you are good to go...

R32 has awd, as opposed to front wheel drive, so that helps put the power down.

No need to set me straight I just think that 400hp in a Golf is like 700hp in Jags. The car just can't handle it.

Jags probably doesn't really like his car anymore and that's why it might be for sale. It's too hard to handle and that frame, suspension, brakes, steering just aren't made for that much speed

Thanks for the replies everyone!

Jody, it's funny that you posted the pictures, from the tech day that I saw you guys had there a few months ago (I've been browsing for a while) I figured this would be a good place to ask and talking with Alex a few months back he said he did a LOT of Porsche stuff.

Thanks for the props on the R32.. I think for my age and time in my life it was a wiser buy than a 996c2(s). Good daily, and my employees don't really know what it is etc.. It is a SUPER fun car, great daily, and a much much needed upgrade from my old xB. DSG is actually really nice, I like it a lot more than I thought I would. I know there are a few A3 people here, do you guys have DSG on yours? Now the next car after I sell my xB will hopefully be a 996 unless I toss the money back into one of my companies.

Thanks Alex! I called you a few months back and we talked about bringing 2 R's in but my friend already got his done by you and was very happy. Reason I had to ask is I am going to do more to the car and am looking for a good shop to work with on a long term basis.

Totally right about a baseline dyno run, sad or crazy, did it with my xB was fun to see what gave the most gains.

Bruce, Alex, and others.. well here is my master plan..

GIAC Chip
VF Intake
KW v3 Coilover
H&R Front and Rear Sway Bars
Neuspeed Endlinks
VF Engine Mounts
Milltek or Supersprint Exhaust
Lightweight wheels, still torn on what to get, with PS2's.
(This is my goal by end of July or sooner pending payment from clients)

Future;
Cams and Header
OR
VF Turbo kit or HPA (Though they are dumb expensive and a kit shouldn't cost 15k or whatever it is on the site, and don't reply to emails either)

PJS; HPA does some amazing stuff. I had the chance to ride in a MK4 R32 with the 565 kit (Dyno was 525awhp) and it was totally nutz!

Thanks again for the feedback, Alex I will probably give you a ring toward the end of the month. I am traveling next week and right now I'm slammed launching 3 products on 3 different businesses. (For all that are self employed, is there any hope that when I am older (I'm 22) work slows down and I can have a life?! )

I think that the R32 with 400 or so HP is just perfect! great chassis, great factory brakes, and with the KW's you will love the suspension (i sure did).

as with your work, you only get more busy unless you are like Jason and retire early

send me a PM about what you are doing..I may be able to assist you with some things through my company www.Image-Wear.com

I don't know if you know much about the DSG but VF and HPA say it will handle 400 crank HP. So that is kind of my goal. And with that power it would be a REALLY fun car like you said. The brakes I am not happy they acted REALLY weird coming off of Mt St Helens Sunday so I am going to upgrade pads, fluid, and lines for starters, but I probably should get a BBK. I have one on my xB and it makes driving it a lot of fun due to late braking.
