Ok I'll bite. What's a Black Series? Why would it cost twice as much as a standard sl65 or whatever badge Chrysler puts on these things? Why is that picture a Silver one? Wouldn't that be a Silver Series?
Actually really asking. I don't know anything about Mercedes. Is it a different engine? Why is it Silver? Why would someone spend 300k for one if they can get the same thing for 150k new?
It's MB's RSR or Scud. 500lbs lighter, fixed roof...basically everything is upgraded. Expect, according to AutoWeek the brakes. They said the brakes are the same as the SL65 and after two hot laps at Laguna they were overheating and very soft. They also didnt like the paddle shifters, no feel for engage or disengage. For $320K, I would expect a car with the best brakes available, STOCK and a well sorted tranny. But since I don't have $300k to spend on a car, my opinion is useless =)

A good thing about the SL65 BS is that it will depreciate like the regular Sl65.
Mercedes SLR was a complete marketing failure, and a travesty when I drove it last fall . Can't wait to see it depreciates under $100K in 2 yrs.

You can spend $300,000+ on a Mercedes or buy several ! For everyday, get a E63 AMG, a lot of power and fun to drive. For the winter, drive the G55 AMG, and for the summer, SL550 ! And for people who lives in the state of Oregon, consider a C-class a bonus because of the tax saving ! All the cars above I mentioned is brand new, if you wish to buy used, half the money should do it !
