First, I sincerely apologize for what happened on Saturday. Although I can really only speak for myself, I admit that our behavior was indeed both immature and dangerous. This is a great event you guys put on and my last intent is to put it in jeopardy for everyone. It was completely bad judgment on our part.

Secondly, I personally will comply with the request to not return to your events. As a car enthusiast, I have respect for what you guys do and do not wish to be the cause for anyone getting upset.

I'm also really sorry for happened to the Ford GT. It was indeed a very impressive and beautiful car. Glad to hear no one was hurt.

Somewhere along the way we lost our guidelines for the event, I posted these rules to live by here for everyone to read.

• Rules-
o When arriving-
• HY520 and 405 is heavily patrolled in the morning by the WSP. Don’t speed!
• Remember you are on camera at all times at RTC so don’t embarrass yourself!
• Use the Bear Creek Parkway to 166th Avenue entrance, preferably from west to east for photo-ops.
• Look for the day’s host to be waved into one of the lots.
• The host makes the call of what does and doesn’t get into the lot that day.
• Let the host know if you have to leave early.
• Back in only leaving ample room to walk behind and around the car.
• Leave approximately half a car width between cars.
• Angle in for better viewing.
• Do not park in handicap spaces.
• If you are coming with a large group of cars, please let us know ahead of time.

o General Rules-
• Absolutely no burnouts or excessive engine revving.
• No “for sale” signs of any kind.
• No commercial banners or placing of flyers or business cards on any cars.
• No commercial sales of any kind without the written permission of RTC.
• Cars should generally be in show condition or they will be waived to the spectator lot.
• Please help keep the lot free of trash.
• Do not touch cars that don’t belong to you and help us protect all cars that belong to others.
• Do not touch, lean against or sit in any cars without the owner’s permission.
o Departing
• Exit via 166th Avenue NE, south to Bear Creek Parkway, then west along Bear Creek Parkway for photo-ops.
• No burnouts.
• Please watch your speed.
o Car Clubs
• We will reserve additional viewing area if your car club wants to attend some weekend. We need to know ahead of time so we can properly plan the space.
• Car clubs can be any type of make or model of car.

I think my car at full rev is still quieter than 1/2 the cars there at idle. =/ Sorry I missed it sounded like a good turnout!

To those responsible for putting on the event this past weekend.

I truly would like to apologize for my behavior on sat morning. It was pointless and wreckless. I not only made myself look bad but worse I made all of you guys look bad. I do hope RTC doesn't blame you guys for my show boating. I don't really know why I did such a ridiculous burnout but I did ask myself "Why did I just do that" when I had finished. I know posting here is not going to put me in your good graces and wont change your image of me but it's what should be done. I will respect your wishes and not return to any meets in the future. However, in my defense, I was not the only one to get wheelspin leaving the parking lot. There were a few cars before me to leave the lot under hard accerleration. Granted my burnout was excessive 10X I don't feel I should be getting all the blame. Once again I apologize.

The only thing you proved was your lack of maturity. Please do not come back. As for other modded cars who felt the need to rev your engines, this is a warning. If it happens again you will be asked to leave. It looked like a great season opener than some idiot has to ruin it for everyone.

Hey Tom I'd like to apologize to you personally for being an idiot on Saturday. You kindly welcomed us when we arrived and I disrespected you as I left. It really was stupid of me to do that in front of all you guys. At the time it seemed like a bright idea and after I felt like a complete *** realizing you would be the one to get blamed for it. You were doing a great thing out there and I quickly ruined it for everyone. Once again I am sorry for my actions.

Thanks guys for coming forward. I need to give you some background about why we're so upset for those new to this forum. Vic and I as our first goal was to make a successful self-sustaining car event that could go on for many years. We visited other weekly car events to see what did and didn't work and we visited specific forums to see how various groups interacted. Cars and Coffee was in the middle of a complete meltdown because nobody ever defined the event. It was just like it said, cars and coffee. This meant any car of any kind. Over time, you couldn't tell one car from anything else you'd see in a grocery store parking lot for about ten cars in a row before you'd see something interesting and the lot was soon full. General parking and display parking were almost one in the same. Very expensive or extremely rare cars would come from a long way away only to get rejected because the lot was full. When the organizers decided to give the event definition, it was almost too late and most of the interesting cars stopped coming. Arguments broke out about what was and wasn't a display car. It got ugly fast. Last time two times I went, it was nowhere near the event it was in the earlier days.

The day Vic and I visited the car event in Southcenter in January 09, a group of modded cars came through with the police right behind. The only "coffee" was a starbucks and we were out in the open, freezing our asses off. We knew that the entire atmosphere wouldn't attract some of the rare cars from the area so we had to give our plans a little more thought.

After creating a list of event criteria, such as a decent size lot, restaurants, access, speed bumps, etc., all the things necessary for a good location, one of the few that fit all the requirements was Redmond Town Center. We approached them with the idea and they agreed to allow us as long as it was a defined event that didn't cause them problems. RTC had their own challenges because guys coming through the center of the mall, stereos thumping didn't make for a pleasant shopping environment and it was something RTC didn't want to attract.

For all these reasons above we decided to make it an Exotics event as our primary focus. But, how do you define "exotics?" There were lots of arguments on this and other forums and Vic and I took a hell of a lot of heat from the car community. We were called just about everything you can think of, just because we were trying to make a successful self-sustaining car event and we thought we'd identified what's required.

As the weeks passed, and we gained experience, everyone who arrived who didn't meet the criteria of "exotic" was still welcomed into E@RTC as we found room. Everyone was great and we didn't have that many problems. The event was attended regularly by the Redmond Police Department and they became weekly participants and had just as much fun as the rest of us. In fact Matt's cruiser was just as a big a hit as any exotic and he became a good personal friend to many of us outside of E@RTC. The Redmond PD has been extremely good to us and we dove on a chance to support them when they needed our help for their charity.

We were excited about this year's opening day and we managed to squeeze in a lot of cars that didn't at all fit the definition of "exotic". At final count, we had over 90 cars show up, and we though we were off to an even better year. That was until the burnouts, (yes, there were several) and the accident that happened a few miles away that also rattled us badly. We're still sick about that one because it didn't need to happen either.

RTC put it this way, to paraphrase; if this event doesn't improve, they will have to reassess our being there. To summarize, we're on thin ice.

We're going to need everyone's help getting the word out about standards of conduct at RTC. Right now we're the largest weekly exotic car event north of LA and this could remain something really great for the whole Puget Sound area, but we can't have it ruined. There are too many people who've given up too much of their time to make this a success and we can't have it go down the drain.

So, now what? How do we keep this open to everyone and not have the same problems? How do we keep this from happening again? Do we make everyone sign off on the rules? We've asked Redmond PD to become more involved once again. This will certainly help, but it will take support from all the attendees.

I updated my blog recap of Saturday - apexrally.com/2010/02/exotics-at-rtc-2202010-recap.html - to include Vic's reminder about the rules. Cheers.

Thanks to Tom, Vic, and others you help organize and run this event!

I know how Tom & Vic feel about this. It reminds me of what Tino, Roberto and Pasquale Perrina went through for the first couple of years with their "Ferrari's on 12th" show up in Capital Hill in front of their showroom.

The first year a guy in a Maserati Spyder did a burnout (and right in front of a Seattle cop directing traffic!), the noise was so loud it startled a couple guys in Ferrari's that were right behind him. One slammed on his brakes and was rear ended by another guy.

The following year, 3 Ferrari's rear-ended each other on the side street as the event was moving to Marymoor Park.

We've been really lucky with the Italian Concours. So far no accidents or "incidents" (although we did have a guy on a Vespa Scooter, back when we were down on Pier 62/63 in the late-90's, tear across the Pier and not see a white stanchion base, hit it and fly off his scooter. Thank God he wasn't hurt (except his pride).

I know first hand the time and effort that goes into a show like Exotics @ RTC, and can REALLY appreciate Vic and Tom's efforts to put it on.

The most effective regulation is self-policing by the community, as evidenced in this thread post-event. As word spreads, the message/spirit of the event gets lost or diluted. Just remember to emphasize the fundamental tenets of ERTC if you invite people or promote it elsewhere. It might also help to have flyers or signs posted as you enter/exit to remind people about no burnouts/shenanegins. Cars & Coffee in Irvine has to resort to this, unfortunately.

Tommy and Vic have organized a successful event, which is good for the local car scene and community. Let's help keep it going.

C&C in Irvine also had a motorcycle cop sitting at the exit watching everyone leave, at least they did when I was there.

I don't think that is what's needed here, but as an event gets bigger, even one with strictly exotics being shown, folks will come who will do silly things.

That's all fine and good that you guys are coming forth and apologizing for doing a burnout but you don't seem to be taking any responsibility for your actions on the highway off ramp. Your burnouts at RTC show immaturity and disrespect; wanting to fight someone for asking you not to gawk and take pictures of a car crash where people may have been very badly hurt shows a lot worse.

I will absolutely stand behind all actions preventing you and your crew from coming back to any events.

No one was to blame for the accident, but that being said I agree it should have never happened. The good news is that no one was hurt and that both people walked about from the wreck. It was unfortunate that it happened but it did and I’m sorry for the outcome.

There were some injuries sustained by myself, and the passenger walked away virtually fine with being just a bit soar the next day. Overall if the accident could have been much worse having both occupants in the vehicle not being able to walk away from the accident.

We were heading on 520w taking the 51st exit at around 40mph since we were in traffic. When we were going straight I stepped on the gas a little everything was fine then the car stepped out from under us throwing the rear of the car out and having us heading towards the guard rail. This all happened in a split second. After hitting the guard rail the car spun around and came beside the concrete barrier. We never actually hit the barrier.

The thought so far is that the tired weren’t warmed up enough given the conditions. Given how nice the morning ended up getting it’s sometimes easy to forget that just earlier it was around freezing temperatures, and that the pavement was still cold.

I have to say for all parties involved that we are very grateful for the members of the community that have reached out to see how we are doing. It makes us feel very fortunate to have be a part of such a great community that cares.

thanks
