Cameras, anyone local shoot Canon DSLR?
It's way past time to upgrade. I'm looking @ getting a new DSLR Canon. My reason for Canon, is I got a few lens. Since we are expecting, the wife thinks it would be nice to have a good camera, yes, we would like it to do video. But how often do you really use a DSLR for video?
What I'm looking at is the 7D, 5D MKII, or the 50D. Anyone got one I can play with for a little while? Right now the top is the 7D due to price & features.

In my experience with digital cameras that take great pictures but /also/ do video, the video quality has been minimal. You can snag an HD camcorder now that takes excellent quality 1080P video for around $400-500 and still have money for an amazing Digital SLR camera.
I myself am a cannon guy as well, those are all wonderful cameras, you can't go wrong with them. My wife is a Nikon nut. Both brands are top notch quality, and for just standard point and shoot auto mode they'll never disappoint you.
What are you upgrading from currently?

I haven't had a chance to try out the video on such a camera so that's excellent information.
Well, went out & played with a few today. The video is 1080P, & is extremely good. I took some in the store, then they uploaded it to a Mac. The AF is AMAZING, it's as fast as pushing in the button, it also has a ton of AF points. It takes 8 frames p/s, starts up in .1 sec, the view finder is full frame. It also has 2 digital processors, where the 5D has one.
The store was great! I wanted to go to Glazers, but the wife didn't want to drive up to Seattle, ended up @ Robis in Lakewood. They are a class act, great store, & extremely knowledgeable. Prices were the same as every where else, out side of NYC. They through in 4 lens cleanings, & $100 worth of prints.
Again, I went with Canon, due to me having lens that work with it, & a speedlight.
I would LOVE the 5D MKII, but it's $2600 for the BODY alone, that is out of the price range. The guy there is a pro photographer, who has worked with Art Wolf. His thoughts are FF is great, but you need, great lens, & 98% of people can't tell the difference. With the 1.6 crop you get in more light, & you get extra zoom from your lens. He said unless you are printing big posted, or cropping, & zooming a pic to print you can't tell the difference.
Can't wait to charge the battery & take a few shots with it!

I disagree about the video quality on canon cameras. I shoot a canon 5d mk2 and love doing short clips. Check out the link above about the tv show house. Shot entirely on a canon 5d mk2.
As with any camera, the nicer the glass, the nicer the photos. You can still shoot some amazing shots on lower quality glass. With the full frame, you don't have the extra zoom of the cropped sensor, but you can be a lot closer and still fit things in the frame. I'll take that over extra zoom.

I own a 5D MKII and it has changed the game when it comes to video. I'm a professional video producer, and all my video content (TV commercials, corporate video, etc) is now being shot on that camera. You would literally have to spend ten times the money to find a video camera that produces better video images. FYI, the season finale of "House" was shot entirely on a 5D. You ain't gonna do that with no $500 handycam.
I shot this video test for a film project with my 5D and a 100mm 2.8. There is no color correction at all.

This info may not interest the OP if he isn't really into video.
