Park Place Blue 996TT
Park Place Blue 996TT
Hey guys, Any one here know any history/stories about the Blue/Grey 2001 996TT that's on the PP lot? I've looked at it briefly and was told it was a local car. No one I know knows the car so I was just opening up my options with you learned folks.
Thanks
Mark

This one?

Looks really nice with low miles, and great price. I couldn't deal with a "tiptronic" personally.

Thanks for the replies. Sorry I wasn't around earlier, but was out at Pacific Raceways dealing with my pita race car(old 911).
detailjohn, that's the one. All my previous 911s have been manuals. Funny, I would never have considered a Tip till I used my wife's C4 Cab Tip. A tip feels slow until you play with the manual mode, then the car can get out of it's own way. Downtown Seattle can be... less than ideal with the six speed and this is going to be a daily driver. If nothing else, the motor may be less likely to have any of the type 1 or type 2 over revs.
DrVolkl, I'm not sure if you were teasing/playing with PP adverts, but it's actually right around market value. I've been looking for the last 2-3 mo and while there are a lot of sellers asking mid to upper 40s in similar condition, cars are trading lower than that. I'm no expert, just have been following things for a while.
If I continue with the deal, I'll have Chris or Squire PPI the car and go from there.

Read your thread earlier about your 997TT. Very Nice Car. If I had read about the color, I'd say no way. Pics are definitely a different deal. Glad the deal worked out for you.

I had the "tip" function on my 2002 Audi S6 Avant which I believe was borrowed from the Porsche (I could be making that up, so don't quote me)... regardless, it was my first "tip" car.. with an "S" mode as well.
You could shift with the gear stalk or the buttons on the steering wheel. I messed around with it here and there, but honestly, I left it in drive 90% of the time. "S" mode was used the other 10% of the time when I wanted to "race" off the line or just have it hold gears longer...
The +/- thing was more of a gimmic for me than useful, the "S" mode did it so well anyhow. I imagine at a track event, I'd use the tip, but otherwise it's hard to do it better than the computer.
It's not imo better or worse than a 6spd, it's just a different way to drive. If it's going to be a daily driver and you spend any time in traffic, I could imagine that the clutch on a turbo would get old... I think you'd probably be happy on with this car.... however I know nothing about 996's so make sure you look up all the common issues/etc!

I know P cars pretty well, tho not a pro. 996s not quite as much, but I own 2 now, recent acquisitions. I'm well aware of the issues which is one of the reasons I'm moving to the turbo for my car as it has the much stronger bottom end to the motor.
I've had a variety of Porches in the last 25 yrs and taught my daughters to drive on an 86 911 Turbo. And yeah, a 930 clutch gets old in traffic. When I'm in my wife's Tip, I find myself using the manual mode a lot. I like to be in the right gear! That may change. In which case, I don't have to do anything. Point and Shoot!

I had horrible experience when I purchased my first Porsche from Park Place. You may want to read the article about the Bingham's in the recent Puget Sound Business Journal and then decide if you want to purchase from Park Place.
Sorry you had a horrible experience. I've know of the Bingham's from when Dave and I did track days. Kind of know how they do business there also and have never been able to make a deal with them. I've tried a couple of times. This deal may not happen either.
I don't think I can pm yet but if you wouldn't mind sharing your issues, I wouldn't mind hearing what happened. mgib ATcomcast dot net.

They are not that bad. I just went there yesterday to check out the mod 01 TT, and they are very helpful. The car feels a little too much turbo lag though.. too bad the shop has no idea what exact turbo kit was used.
Well, I did buy it. Actually a good deal. Not great, but good. It's got a flash so pulls very hard at .9bar. Clean PPI from Chris's. Only hassle is an off throttle flash of overboost. Haven't heard back from the PO, so to be safe, I'll probably have the car dynoed to see what's happening. I don't want to be lean if I'm actually at a brief 1.3-1.4 bar on pump gas.
