Going Old School...again
Going Old School...again
Well, I decided to go even more old school and picked up a 1980 911 SC. It is a steel widebody conversion and in excellent condition. Only other mods right now are a factory short shifter and MSD electronic ignition. It currently has a little over 63K miles and rolls on some custom Fuchs (8X16 front and 10.5X16 rear). My GF calls her The Mistress. I guess it will stick until I come up with something better.
John and the guys at Metropolitan Detail did a fantastic job cleaning her up and detailing her. She looks almost young again. Not bad for a 31-year old.
She had a turbo tail on her when I picked her up, but I've since swapped it for a duck tail and am going for an RS/RSR-inspired look. I think it looks much better.
She drives great and I'm thoroughly enjoying the air-cooled Porsche smell, mechanical sounds, and un-sophisticated ride. Getting a workout with the non-power steering, but I'm enjoying the visceral feel and connection to the road. This is what driving is all about. I'm glad to be back in a 911, but I'll have to get used to the antiquated HVAC system. Everything you've heard about it is true. It's terrible. Hans had too much lager the day they designed this system. I'll bring it out to the next ERTC. Enjoy the pics and see you on the road.

Beautiful wide body Carrera. John has an emotional meltdown when he gets to work on the '80's carrera (he use to own one at some point). Hence he goes that extra mile correcting and protecting it's original paint. Great job on the find and taking it to the right person to bring it to showroom perfect condition.
