Exclamation New Speed Camera traps deployed?

I recently received a ticket in the Mail. Not from a Red Light Camera, but apparently from a radar activated camera speed trap! The notice states in big red letters "This infraction will not be a part of your driving record and will be processed as a parking infraction"
There is also statement from an officer that he was "operating an automated traffic safety camera which I set to detect and photograph vehicles exceeding the 35 mph speed zone..." etc.

Anyone else have a run in with these new traps in the Seattle area?

Jag, can you offer any insight? Have you tackled these yet?

Since they are processed as a parking citation, does that mean that city hall is trying to avoid a challenge to the revenue?

Yeah, those tickets are extra revenue. They had those in London all over the place.

Yes. They cannot process them as real speeding tickets because your face is not identified on the video so they can't say for sure that you were involved in the speeding incident.

Your face was blurred out due to state privacy laws, therefore there should be a section on the ticket that asks you to confirm if you are the driver. I you select no, they then ask who was driving, but you do not have to fill that out. Case closed, no fine. Unless you are honest, then pay the ticket.

I'm surprised they are doing this now when other states are tearing them down after losing lawsuits. The simple argument is that they declare you guilty until proven innocent.

Read in the Tacoma News Tribune that Tacoma (or Pierce Co.?) is charging you upfront $600 to bring in the officer or "expert" when you want to fight these in court.

Shameless shakedown.
