Hi Guys,

I've been working on a software project for the iphone that involves recording, and playing back the sounds of luxury car engines. I was wondering if anyone in the NY area will be willing to lend a helping hand (car).

The process involves connecting two high sensitivity condenser microphones (with my homemade wind blocker) to the car, one next to the engine, one next to the exhaust. Then the car is driven casually (putting the engine under load) as I sit shotgun to record the following sounds.

• Ignition
• Idle
• 10 seconds of holding 3k RPM (while driven)
• A smooth acceleration

I'm not looking to drive your car, nor am I looking push your vehicle to the limits.

This is a very highly polished software project, and will be a ton of fun. I'm an enthusiast obsessed with detailing, so a TON of care is taken to make sure your car is not scratched or swirled in any way. The whole session takes maybe 25 mins.

Your name, or company name will be featured in the special thanks section of the app. I can also buy you a drink, pay for your gas, buy lunch, etc.

So far I've recorded: S5, GTR, AMV8, SL55AMG, and a 996 Turbo. Bentley Flying Spur was recorded but too muted to use

If anyone is willing to help, please respond below or PM me. I'll have some screen shots of the app in a day or so. For now, take a look at 2 pictures of my sister and I recording my friend's Turbo. (the rear engine nature of this car made it tricky to get to the exhaust, so the phantom power source was placed in a soft fabric pouch, and taped on the rear deck)

My exaggerated tape job probably scaring people off :P Was on a time constraint so I overdid the blue tape to prevent things from falling off.

App approved by Apple, now we just need to flip the switch and it'll be launched. Special thanks to Fatalflash and his friend for letting us record their M6 and M3 yesterday. New cars will be added one by one to the next revision of the app, probably next week.

Finally, 5 months since coming up with the idea, and after 3 months of intense experimentation and programming, the app is now LIVE~

I'll continue to offer more cars and revise the thank you list as we proceed with fine tuning the app. Couldn't have done it without the fellow 6speeders.

Fatalflash, I'm processing the M6 audio right now, should add it to the next release.

 

I found a way to give free copies of the app to those who helps out on the project, didn't know but Apple gives devs 50 copies to hand out for free.

Plugged the app into a Civic yesterday and blasted the 996 Turbo engine sound from the stereo. Embarrassing, yes! Fun, very.

Just a quick update here. The M6 audio is still being "chopped", and is scheduled to be released in Version 1.2 of the app. Version 1.0 launched on Tuesday, but had some algorithm glitches. We pushed out 1.1 quickly hoping to resolve them, but even that is still waiting for Apple's approval.

I'll send you a promo codes by PM later so you can get yourself a free copy of the app, then when 1.2 comes around, it should be a quick free update.
