My Japanese Super Turd!
No SR going in it. I did hose the 1.8 this past weekend. Need to fix it and improve the cooling so it does not overheat. I might do a KA and 5spd. Here is a pic before the track event.
How about a l20 with the australia/new zealand/japanese market L18e injection bits on it?

I doubt you will find a performance advantage to this but.......an aftermarket injection setup like megasquirt and a turbo would really be sweet yet you could still keep the engine family the same.
Before you make a final decision, talk to Brian Downey at Auto Expectations about engine specs as he currently builds 4 cylinder L motors for more than a few SCCA production and touring class race cars.
