Panamera Pricing
People ARE going to buy this car. I think there was a similar reaction when the Cayenne came out and Porsche has sold 150k of them since the debute.
The question is how many does Porsche need to sell to make it worth while and not a failure. If it's a low amount, then there are no worries, it will work out just fine. If they plan on selling a bunch = fail.

porsche better wake up. amg s class are going for less than $110 new at long island dealers. new awd s550 for $75. no one will pay double to get pano. at least cayenne is priced competitively to its rivals. add in ridiculous decision to make pano a 4 seater...

The market always shapes the reality. If they get hit with real slow sales, they will have to Adjust. They certainly won't kill it as the tool-up time and decision for them to make anything but a 911 or boxster is always a big dam deal. The cayenne was a huge financial gamble for Porsche and they banked big time on it's success. Unlike The C car; the PA is not something the average American is consuming daily (like an SUV or a reasonably priced sports car, eg boxster) so they could really have some sales issues here. Ironically, Aston and what have you, are all builidng new and more expensive cars also, so perhaps their target will buy anyway. No mater, every exec that would have been able to buy a porsche and keep the wife happy at the same time, would have easily done so........ oh say about 9 months ago. Time will tell and I am sure we are all watching this one.
I would be looking at an RS6 or perhaps just skipping 4 doors. Crazy pricing. Sad really. They should keep the turbo under 100k....

Like others have stated i can get a new Ferrari for that money. Freck that's the pricing of a continental GT. They could have probably gotten by with charging a top of the line Panamera at about $150K fully kitted with PCCBs, PDK etc and $110 on the low end.
S65s are going for about $40K off MSRP these days? I just dont see a market for these cars yes it will handle brilliantly but its way too expensive. Porsche has always been about sporty yet affordable (relatively).
To answer the 2nd part of your question not a lot, Porsche has already written off the development cost of the Panameras so all they have as expenses is the marginal cost. Thought Porsche is not a low model manufacturer no way are they going to sell a mere 2-4000 models a year stateside.
I think in today's market, the price of buying a car off the showroom floor will be much better than ordering one. I want a Panamera, but I won't order one, I will just wait until the car come out later this year and shop nationwide for a good deal !
A morderately equipped S that does 0-60 in 5.3 at 105k? No thanks. I can buy it for 65k with 8k miles on it a year after release. These prices are insane at every model level on this car. I would much rather have an M5 for far less money.
I'm in agreement completely based upon how this looks on paper, but I think I'll wait for the reviews and maybe even a test drive. Porsche does some amazing things with automobiles - who knows, this car may be worth it.......unlikely, but you never know........
