Four door wars
look vanv12chief, looks like u haven`t got a clue, i will clear things up for ya:
designer Michael Mauer (a few months back):
`For me, the new Panamera is a typical Porsche since it is using typical Porsche design elements and design DNA’ from the past, Mauer says. He points to the high fenders, v-shaped hood shutline and air intake as being strong Porsche cues. Mauer says that in developing the Panamera, they looked at all Porsche cars from the past and present and in particular at the CGT, `because that is the high-end Porsche’ for inspiration. for example the front of the car and the raised center console on the inside is influenced by that car...the back end influenced by the 928 and 356, the instruments by the 911 etc.`

u can now either acknowledge these facts or go on bashing the pana, i have a slight feeling u will continue with the 2nd option.

What is your point? That the 928 rear was a winner for them? Is that so? Also, just because it worked great on a mid engined, open sports car doesn't mean that it works on an S Class sized product. [Micheal was also responsible for the SLK - ugh!] Actually now that you did give me that clue I do see it. It looks more like a smashed Cayenne than a Carrera GT. Is that your point? Thanks for that. Thing is there are so many other better looking autos in this market at the same price range that will perform as well. Have you a clue??
Now that Porsche is owned by VW I'll give this thing 5 years and it will be gone from the lineup. Porsche builds the worlds best sports car. There are so many others who know how to build great luxury sedans and have done so for so many years. Thats why I respect Ferrari for not crossing that line. They have always held true to what they are about. Where is Porsche going? I'm assuming we'll be seeing a great handling minivan or pick up from Porsche. [I don't feel Carrera GT design elements will work on those either]
I don't think anyone needs to worry that Porsche has lost it's way. When Porsche tackles something new, they still apply their philosophy which is basically make it the best we can and, form follows function. I went to our local introduction today (All Pro Imports in Ocala, Florida) and got to drive the Panamera S and it was a solid, supple riding baby with a mighty smooth trasmission. As everyone has said, boy does it strike you differently in person. It has the presence of a fine GT car and I would love to have one if I were in the market for a 4 seater rocket ship. I don't think they will have any trouble selling 20 grand a year.
@vanv12
my point is: that no matter what i will say u will keep on bashing the Panamera, cause u are exactly acting like those disrespectful trolls 8 years ago, who were constantly moaning about the Cayenne, principally ignoring the facts, the DNA, the philosophy behind it and doubting Porsche´s ambitions. but u know what? since then..
the Cayenne has become the best selling Porsche in their line-up,
the Cayenne owns an important part in making Porsche the most profitable carmaker on earth.
cars like the Cayenne saved Porsche and ur beloved GT3RS and cars like the panamera will do their part to save ur future beloved 911s, simple as that. i know it is hard to accept the truth sometimes.

I know that my comments are being taken very seriously. I totally agree that Porsche needs this car to keep building and racing the GT3RS. My point is this. I have always owned Porsches. Most every model. This doesn't mean that we all must agree that what they do is great. Its not. All I hear is that "With the exception of the rear" its a good looking car. That may be but didn't someone at Porsche see this? Porsche should understand that there are People like myself who buy Porsches regardless. I've owned 356s, '67 911 S, two '73 911 Ts [bought new and still retain the coupe] '73 2.7RS, Turbo, 928s, Cabriolet etc. This car does not define Porsche. Its a car to make money. That its. I agree the Cayenne is a money maker and not what Porsche uses as their poster car. Porsche is not financially where they were. Thats why I feel that VW will drop this car after a 5 year run. They'll sell 20K a year. Is that sufficient for VW? Bottom line is this car looks bad from the rear. Its not a good design when there is such a flaw. Especially if it is the view that drivers of other marks are expected to see the most. Don't you agree? They're view is of a bad looking five door hatchback with a Porsche emblem attached. Porsche needs the 911 GT3RS more now than ever. My 18 year old son and his friends thought that the Panamera was just plain ugly. They're Porsches future. As they said earlier today, The Panamera or Cayenne aren't Porsches they'd dream to own.
BTW: Did you really use the term "Troll"? Are you old enough to drive? Am I discussing design with someone who may not be smarter than a 5th grader?

i have seen and driven the pana in reality and i think it has a stunning appearance and is a sensational piece of engineering like most on here, but i am not recommending it cause u seem to be a hopeless case in that regard. many like/love it already and the open-minded Porsche fans, who weren`t blown away from the start, will find a way to appreciate the Panamera on the long run. Porsche hasn`t cared too much about the rest over the years and that´s good, cause there will always be haters out there and Porsche doesn`t need them, they know their business.
I think the Panmera is a love it or hate it car.
An Aston Martin has to be an emotional ownership. I cannot justify any other reason anyone would own one [or possibly being a masochist.] I've owned Astons since the early seventies [all 60s era cars until the Vanquish] Everytime I enter the garage I am amazed at the beauty of the Vanquish. Anything parked next to it simply disapears. It is an old world car. Literally assembled by hand and the last to be as such. Avoid a Vanquish. Very expensive to run. The F1 in it is a pain to live with. Go for a DB9 or Vantage. [not a DBS] The Vantage V8 is a great option to a 911 and much rarer. You could drive a V8 Aston daily. The quality and feel of the interior is as good as a Bentley. If your considering a newer Aston you'll find they are all well sorted but much more expensive to run than a Porsche. There is a reason we see Porsches driven daily to 150K plus miles. A Porsche could be your only car. Its the most user friendly sports car ever. Not so with an Aston. Altough I have heard that Aston will soon have a new mini commuter car. Ugh! Now theres an Aston Martin thread. Looks like I won't be popular with the Aston group either. Unsure if I've answered your question.
and that´s good
