As long as you keep doing cataracts/cadillacs, keep buying the turbo

To chime in, I love my v6. I purchased it because I wanted a fun daily driver that would seat the entire family. I test drive both the v8 and v6 and as others have mentioned just couldn't justify the additional $15k... there was a reason Porsche choose to bring the the v8 out before the v6. I came out of a 2005 PTT, and was afraid I was going to miss the power, although I don't... and I sure don't miss filling it up every week

Yea you US guys don't do so well with cataracts eh...medicare isn't helping that. In Canada cataracts are still paid based on the 1980's rates when they took wayyy longer than 4-15 minutes to do...its a monopoly.

Lasix is the way to go.

Personally, I'm becoming a fan of total joints I don't do optho, but have some friends who are in it.

Hmmm....I didn't equate insecurity with one's love of performance cars and a enthusiast's emotion when you are so proud of somthing you agonised over to purchase - presumably JUST within your budget or a little over - and another comments, 'not bad but did you see the ????? So you may be on to something here....perhaps that is why I always feel inadequate unless I am running 500hp....yes.....as I type this I feel better now... you have uncovered what some of us don't want to confront in our lives......I think I can sell these pointless examples of my varying degrees of insecurity.......utilitarian transportation is all I need.....I don't like cars......or talking about cars...or tracking cars....or tuning cars...I am insecure....I am insecure.....you have given me much to reflect on and I thank you for your wishes of good luck as I deal with my demons....

I've driven the P4S and P4 a number of times and I just ordered a P4 if that answers the question. I wanted the better gas mileage and it has plenty of power for a daily driver. I will be giving up some faster cars for it, but it's a great all around package.

Most posts here by guys with 6 cyl and almost sound to be justifying/rationalizing their purchase compared to larger displacement/more cylinder options it appears to me. I have not driven the entry level model and do not know if you can really feel SOP diff in HP/TQ or not (100 hp in a car that weighs roughly the same seems like you would feel that?) plus, I cannot imagine any 6 popper (even with PSE and 300 hp) can sound nearly as good as the 8 cyl cars (mine has PSE). But......, that's just me, I could be wrong.

I knew the entry level 6 cyl was coming and didn't even consider waiting for it and a similarly equipped turbo at $45k more was also not considered.

Bottom line; if the 6 cyl is what you want/need/fits the budget, gets great gas mileage or whatever, that's great. Be happy with it and don't feel the need to justify it...... I couldn't be happier with my P4S and have zero regrets. Life is short, enjoy!

I don't think the V6 owners are justifying their purchases. They are simply answering the OP's question. I'm quite sure that all V6 owners here can easily afford a V8, which honestly is not too much more expensive.

As for me, the Pan4 is my wife's DD. The V6 fits her well. She will not drive any faster even if I buy her the turbo.

I sometimes use her car, but I've never considered buying an S or turbo even if I intend to use it more often.

After tracking my .2RS a few times, I don't think there is a lot of cars out there that can excite me anymore.

it's the color I'm quite sure!

Points well taken although the upgrade to a PTT similarly equipped to mine was a $45k bump.....(I did the math after the fact)

As a new V6 -4 owner I do not feel I had to "justify" my choice in the least. This is a bit of an arrogant assumption on your part. This is the type of comment I would expect in the Bimmerfest forum from an M5 owner!

I would have loved the 8 and better yet the turbo but neither was practical as the V6 for my use or practicality. My other considerations were BMW 535/550/740I, Audi 6 3T, MB550, Jag XF (higher HP than Panamera), and the Infinity 56 (also lots more HP). The only justification was to convince myself of the higher price point.

What I got for that justification was a great car and one that stands out from the thousands on the road of the considered alternatives.

Happy for your P4S! Enjoy it as much all of us V6ers will enjoy ours and TT owners theirs.

guessing if I were in the BMW forums then I would also point out that you seem a little sensitive by my observations enough so that you had respond and call me arrogant? touche.

Sorry but, I don't see where you even posted in this thread until now so obviously I wasn't referring to you......

Based on your other considerations, it makes sense that you would prefer the V6?

My other considerations were CLS63, S63, B7 Alpina, 09 S8 (well, until the new one is here...) and my last few cars were CLK63 Black Series, E55, SL55 and I also currently own a 1995 928 GTS which possibly explains my affinity for V8 motors? Whenever there is a choice of a V8 I will usually gravitate to it, not necessarily the Hi-Po version although I did also have a CTT.

Not wanting to come off as arrogant at all. Sorry if it came off that way; was just an observation.

I'll admit it ... I am justifying my purchase, but because it is justified. I have a 997TT. I didn't feel that I needed a PTT after driving the V6. It's the right tool for my daily driving needs. And as a former "other brand" driver, I can say this car is the most fulfilling sedan I have owned.

Fair enough, peace pipe on the way!

Moral of this story is that compromise is based on what you are coming down from or going up to. Certainly with the cars you had in the past I can understand the "justification" comment.

Just to complete the choice - how do you rate the V8 against the high powered MB that you have owned in the past. Certainly from a "looks" perspective and uniqueness the Panamera is heads above in my opinion.
