Baby Seat at Back Center Console

I tried installing baby seat at the middle console of back seat. Is this legal or will I get a ticket ? Anyone did the same before ? It fits properly though.

Thanks peeps !

I have two car seats in the back but I see no way that the car seat could be secured to anything in the middle - that seems very dangerous at least.

With no center seatbelt how can you be securing this properly? Is it really worth risking your child's life?

I use one clip from left seat and one from right seat. Pull it tight and they are secured !!

still seems a bit goofy and dangerous. Seems like that the center console would also not best accept the stress of a crash like the seat - besides scratching like crazy.

here is my thread about the car seats that I have found that work best.

Are you really willing to use your child as a test dummy when and if a crash occurs? Have you tested "tight and secure" with a 10 G crash stop? If not, then you have proven nothing.

I can't believe someone would take this chance, if car seats were meant to be strapped down with 2 separate seat belts don't you think the manufacturer would tell you this?

CK, I'm going to have an impact beam installed in both rear doors. Since the car seat will be so close to the door. I considered what you tried and even thought of using egg crate to protect the wood. In the end, the impact beam made the most sense. Now, I just have to find someone to do it! LOL!

The car has side impact beams. I wouldnt think twice about putting my babies in approved seats in the rear sides. These cars are very safe. Besides you can just accelerate away from the idiot trying to broadside your car. Somehow generations of babies survived without any seat belts or car seats. Now putting my kids in a fiat500 or a smart, that wouldn't happen.

i just tried doing this out of curiosity and it worked. Infact its so tight that the base doesnt even move at its firmly attached to the isofix rings on both sides. .

Once you go an actual seat, not a capsule holder you need the belt that goes over the top of the seat to lock into the seat back. There is no anchor point for the center. In crash tests with child seats the front seat back rest also plays a part in stopping everything fro flying forward. If the baby seat straps were loose or for some reason (which happens) they have one arm out etc I don't think the idea of a baby flying through cabin to the windscreen is ideal!

Apart from anything, in the event of an accident, which I absolutely hope you NEVER have!!!!! I imagine medical insurance would not be happy if the seat was not secured as per directed.
