I see lots of threads about the 4's in the winter but none about the RWD's?

I live in central NJ so winters with snow are a hit or a miss...

pretty much my question is ... anyone driving a RWD panamera or 911 for that matter???

I really love the porsche... I would get a 4 but I heard/researcehd you cant get the 6-speed manual in the pan 4 ...

saving towards something trying to narrow down what it will be...

since my z06 is a 90k ice cube in the winter on summer 345's

 

Driven 997tt and Panamera in the snow. If you are even thinking of driving in the winter take AWD. RWD Porsches are for warm climates.

And further, you allready have a z06 which is rwd, you dont need another one.

 

okay but I really want 6-speed which knocks out the pan 4 correct??

I would consider the 997 or 991 4s possibly...

but I read on the porsche website that people DD 911s that are RWD in the snow...

I also dont really have a far commute I go about 1-2 miles to a park n ride then bus to work

 

Get a set of snow tires and you'll be fine. I've driven countless RWD cars in the winter as well as a few AWD cars as well. RWD is perfectly fine with proper tires and a proper driver. You may get sideways occasionally without traction control, but if you have TC pretty much anyone can make it work.

 

awd all the way, with snow tires, and you will be good....

 

next question !? Can you get the Panamera in manual? people told me yes... porsche website looks like no? but the pictures it has a 6-speed gearbox

 

You can get a manual Panamera in Europe only.

 

Porsche traction management is very different from lets say mb, bmw and audi. On my 997tt when you pressed the pedal even lightly too quickly the back end slided sideways in the roundabout etc. This is an awd car and still in winter the heavy engine in the back can turn you around, cant imagine how impossible rwd cars are. Dont see them around in wintertime here. I am speaking from a very snowy point of view. If you have to drive in winter, you will be ok all of the time with awd, and much of the time with rwd. In the Panny the the traction control seems stricter and the engine is in the front, so I guess it will be better. We dont have snow yet, last winter we allfeady had it at this point, so I only have the experience of a 4s from one drive. So the Panny is probably like audi, mb and bmw and you will be ok with rwd and winter tyres most of the time, but with awd all of the time.

 

damn us... lol I think I just crossed the Pani off my list... Something sacreligious about getting a non traditonal manual porsche in my eyes....
