Instrument cluster back light

Just want to verify that the back light for the instrument cluster only comes on when headlights are on but not when ignition is on? I would rather have it on when ignition is on like all my other cars.

Confirmed, only on with headlights on. I believe all germans are this way, don't quote me on this though.

Most of the higher end cars use some kind of electro-luminescent display on the instrument cluster, including my previous MB s-class, this type of display must be turned on to be visible, so it is on when the ignition is on. Porsche is a bit low tech on this, because during the day the back light is not on, I find the gauges, especially the upper portion because they are deeply recessed, a bit too dim, perhaps Porsche can come up with a software update to have the back light stayed on with the ignition.
