iPod interface question
iPod interface question
So I've got an iPod Classic in my P4S, works awesome. What I don't like is the multi-function display (next circle right of the speedometer). The audio interface with the iPod is terrible! All it will show are the tracks on the current album playing; if I want to select any other music than those tracks, I have to use the PCM middle large screen...which is also very complicated and confusing, and no way am I messing with that while I'm driving!
So I just went car camping/rock climbing in Oregon with a good friend, we had a blast! Of course the car was super fun to drive down there from central WA. He has a SanDisk mp3 player which he plugged into the USB port in my car; turns out it works just fine on the multi-function display! Shows all his folders, you can back out of any album and find any and all music on there.
I want to do that with my iPod! Am I missing something? I've searched the manual in detail; I just hope they fix this in a future software update!
While I'm on the subject, and I know this has been mentioned on this forum before...but what in the heck were those Germans thinking when they decided everybody wants their stereo to turn on and play every time they start their car? Even if it has been turned off? Like my friend pointed out, here is this car loaded with insane levels of engineering genius...and they screwed up the volume control for the stereo?
Btw, I can't even trick it by turning the volume all the way down...it'll still turn on, and turn up the volume to a low level...but not no level like I left it!

Try setting your volume and "memorizing" it with the preference keys on the driver's door.
And remember, your key also has memory. It will return to the last setting you had when you locked and unlocked your car with the key button.

Thanks for the tip, jmmk...but it did not work. Perhaps in a software update?
It's certainly livable...I start the car, immediately turn off the stereo and turn on sport mode and the sport exhaust. It manages to remember my shock settings!
Far worse is the iPod interface mentioned above. They really need to fix that, makes my iPod virtually unusable while I'm driving. And how annoying to find that a basic mp3 player works fine!

Use an old iPod classic and can access all the tracks from the wheel; it is actually a lot quicker to scroll through with the wheel controls than the PCM. Make sure you select 'tracks' and 'all tracks' on the 'disk' page on the PCM. Sounds like you selected 'album'; which only displays the album you chose on the small screen.

Memory trick mentioned above should solve it. I have a 2010 turbo and it had the Radio Volume memorized in the seat memory since the first day I picked it up from dealer. I programmed it to the XM station I want and I volume I want. Now everytime I get in the car it recalls that memory.
easy_button, you are correct on all counts...but scrolling though every song I own takes forever! What I'd like to be able to do is scroll through artists, then albums just like on my friend's mp3 player!
Sinan, for whatever reason, the memory trick does not work on my 2010 P4S...
