I drive a Corvette. I like the 2 passenger, smaller car feel. And not being able to get more than one other person in my car is good too.

I'll see about closing that vent tomorrow. It's the one just to the right of the map display in this pic, right?

Congrats on a great car!

Kip posted an excellent list of tips for break-in. I would follow these rules religiously. I would also add a few things that are quite important. First, change the oil at 2,000 miles. I did a fair amount of research, and talked to some of the most knowledgeable people in the Porsche race business. After 2,000 miles, your oil will contain all sorts of crap from the engine, mainly metal shavings. Before pushing the car, you absolutely want to change out the oil and filter.

Second, when you do start pushing the car, do it gradually. I never exceeded 1/2 throttle through 2,000 miles, changed the oil, and gradually over the next 2,000 miles began to push the car. I didn't really flog it until 4,000 miles.

Finally, drive gently until your oil temperature has come up to operating temperature. Always do this, since the majority of engine wear occurs in the first few minutes. I always take it easy, and drive in comfort until the oil is up to temperature. I've put almost 14,000 miles on the car, and aside from the oil change at 2,000 miles, haven't added a drop of oil. I do drive the car quite hard at least a couple times a week.

As far as problems, other than two punctured tires, the car has been absolutely perfect. Haven't noticed any noise at speed, so maybe they've fixed the problem.

Thanks for the oil change advice. I thought it should be changed after the initial break in, but was surprised when the salesman said to wait a year.

Can you get the oil changed anywhere you want? It's kind of expensive doing it at the dealer's, isn't it?

I'll take it easy for the next 2K miles (I'll let the wife do that, she drives kind of slow). And I haven't had a chance to test for the noise yet. My wife said she hasn't heard it but she's been driving with the radio on. So if it exists, it's really quiet. I know I had a hard time hearing it when she pointed it out.

In eu only rear side and back windows are allowed, front side and windshield I believe max25-30% tint, if I remeber correctly.

My wife closed the vent today and said the noise may have been slightly quieter. But it's so low in volume she said it was hard to tell. I'll have to try it myself -- when she lets me have the car.

Congrats to you and your wife. I couldn't think of a better way to break-in any car then to take the road trip you did. From S.F. to (I hope you took PCH all the way down to L.A.) Vegas to Yosemite wowza I hope you took a bunch of pics.

What type of vette do you drive? We have a couple of drives every so often and if you're down, I can let you know so you can attend (if your schedule permits).

Finally got a chance to drive the GTS for a while yesterday. The high-pitched whine was extremely faint, but when it occurred it went away when the right-center vent was closed.

We've hit 2000 miles so it's time for an oil change. And I want to take it in to the dealer for another reason, the only problem we've found so far.

The alarm went off for my wife when she opened the door to get in the car last week and it did that for me yesterday. Turning the ignition switch enough to turn on the electrical system turned it off. We have the keyless entry system.

Has this happened to anyone else? This seems like it would be a hard one for the dealer to reproduce.
