Service blows my Engine! !
Service blows my Engine! !
hey guys,
just wanted to get advice/pointers on how I should go about this.
I purchased in the beginning of the year 3 panameras in the family. My father takes in his at the beginning of the week for the 10,000 mile service. That afternoon he picks it up and turns the corner noticing a knocking on the engine. then he notices the oil pressure wayyyy low. Makes a U-Turn and drives right back in.
Seems like whoever did the service job, ran the engine with no oil.
After two days of inspection, (checking internals) they call us and tell us the engine is blown and they will need to ship a new engine from germany which will take several weeks.
Im wondering if this will drop the value of the vehicle?!?! It'll never be the same.
How should I go about this? Should I start arguing for a new car?
Let me know what you guys think of this situation.

Sorry to hear that, it shouldn't drop the price of the car by a lot but I have never dealt with this issue before. I would try to make a case though for a new one and see what they say.
If I was buying your vehicle, and I saw a report that mentioned something related to engine, I would steer clear from it.
Porsche will note that in your service records, Carfax, and the others might not report it, depending how the dealer attacks the problem. If they do report it to Carfax or Porsche does, I as a buyer would not touch your car.
Dealer should be liable for it, they should keep you happy as you bought 3 cars from them? This is a no win for you, unless they come up with some big fat check for your perceived depreciation.
Was the dealer in Coral Gables? Just wondering as I take my car there a lot.

MIA,
I agree with you 100% . . if i saw a car I was buying with a situation like this, I would also stay far away from it. That is why I am considering of making a deal about it. This cant be acceptable.
Any yes the dealer is in the gables. my father usually does his work there. I take mine up to pompano. alot better customer service in the service and sales department.

The new engine shouldn't be an issue. Engines are replaced in cars all the time and have no affect on the value of a car. There is no need to steer clear of a vehicle with a new engine.
In fact, the new engine comes with a full warranty on the car and actually has less miles on it than the car would if the engine had not been replace.
Give them a chance to make the issue right and enjoy the newer engine.

It was a lease and almost at the end of the lease, so he did not care too much about it.
This is just my experience, and of course every one has a different view. Me personally would not touch it with a stick IF it had something that major on file.
We are not speaking about the same thimg. The PTT was not wrecked and your brothers car was wrecked. This is not an apples to apples scenario.
I have experience with engines replacement in vehicles and it has not been an issue in any of those situations.

Same place that ran the engine without oil is going to replace the engine...good luck with that one! I would insist on a new car, adjusting for fair use. My 30+ years and ownership of over 120 cars/trucks tells me that you are going to have many more problems with an engine replaced by a dealer. Let them sell it and take on the responsibility. Chances are...it will never be right!
Sue.
Dont even give them a chance to "make it right" almost everyone here is a *******.
A shop down here took one of my e85 cars for a joyride and put pump gas in it and blew it up.
Your value will go down when someone sees the carfax and sees entire engine replacement done and that the vins are different.
Nobody wants to buy a car for more than 50k with "stories"

I've been lurking around on car forums for 11 years, and that is the most depressing post I have ever read...
Great attitude man.
I think a engine swap always makes me suspicious of track use/abuse. Your story might not lessen the value, but makes a potential buyer suspicious. Hope this will go well for you.
Walk into the sales department of their dealership or another Porsche dealership and make sound like the motor swap has already taken place and give the reason why but your interested in trading in for another car (you pick before talking) and see if its used against you.
