Dealership scratches car...

Had to get my car worked on at the dealership and one of the techs accidentally scratches my car with a screw driver as he was pulling on a part. The scratch is about 4 inches long and not deep but a scratch none the less. They are planning on taking it to a body shop to sand and buff it out.

Is there anything to look for to make sure this is done right?

Accidents happen and they are making it right...just make sure it's right when they're done. To ask for more than that borders somewhat on extortion if you ask me. Of course, they should be providing a loaner throughout.

Not trying to extort anyone. I just don't want to look back and regret not doing something after this is all done.

I just didn't know if there's a standard that they usually do when something like this happens.

It happens, you'll not see it after it's done. Best way to check is a fluorescent bulb.

Unacceptable. Accidents only happen with lazy and careless behavior. If the tech is using a screw driver near a painted body panel then he should take the time to cover or tape off the body panel knowing full well that a slip of the screw driver will scratch the paint

A 4" scratch is a big deal, make sure it is not through the clear coat, if it is then there is no way to"fix" it

And before they do anything get a paint thickness reading for baseline purposes, because if they sand it too deep they will cut through your clear coat and leave the paint exposed.
